Potential FM HD mess & a Roundup of the fm band

when 94.7 94.9 95.3 95.7 & 96.1 are all in HD won't that be a big mess?

with 95.7 already in HD 95.3 & 96.1 seem to be greatly affected for a mile or 2 in every direction of thier tx.... a great deal more than when there was only analog from the new site....

i have a very sensative and selective radio with good ears and there is no hearing Missouri or oxford on 95.5 or Jonesboro or Tupelo (Potts Camp) on 95.9. Before HD I was able to do some dx when with narrow bandwith on both freqs.

Also KJMS's Tx isn't all over the dial as bad like it has been

Probably the first time I've said anything about 100... but they aren't sounding very brite or loud... I don't think they have made any changes rather i think it's the other stations processing that makes it appear this way... 94.1 sounds very loud and often over processed... 107.5 sounds pretty loud but not overprossed like 94.1 sounds... both have a better high end leaving 100 sounding a little dull... on a positive 100 still sounds very clean.
WQOX (IMHO) has the best audio as for their music library and for processing side. (does anyone know what they are processing with now?)
WUMR sounds a bit better. Still needs some work.
WEVL's STL still has the hiss from the long haul across town as it's always had. WEVL would sounds quite well if this wasn't there.
WRBO still sounds like they took a nob at about 8 or 9 khz and turned it so far to the right they ripped it off....
WMFS still sounds like they are overdriving the input on thier stl or processing

KIX, Q, WVIM, & Hot all sound really great!

A mess in what way?

Sure, IBOC mucks up first adjacents, but that's about it. I have had little trouble with second adjacents. And, to be fair, there is no one on a first adjacent who is deserving of protection inside a station's service countour in which IBOC is effective (as you know, it does not carry as far as the main carrier). The fact that a station like Potts Camp or Oxford or Mountain View can be heard from time to time in Memphis is not important in the FCC's view.

I have heard many in the DX community complaining bitterly about IBOC -- how it has covered up a useable DX channel or two. I am a bit more circumspect. While I enjoy DX, I realize that the broadcast band is not there for the hobbyist (which is why I'm a ham, I guess). And, if IBOC adds choice (such as it is) to the public at large, it is a good idea from the public policy standpoint. At least, on FM.

Now, IBOC is indeed a mess on AM, and will be as long as the Sun goes down at night. In fact, I am looking forward to one day watching someone argue in federal court that some IBOC signals on AM (I could name one or two here) actually violate valid treaties with other countries by impinging upon foreign clears (but, that argument is a bit too esoteric for this Board).

Digital radio -- in some form -- is here to stay. IBOC as we know it though, may be transitional technology.

Now, what about this FM100 thing?

What do you think is up with Flinns app for 96.1 is he needing to loose some money somehow? Certanly a 600 foot tower costs more than he is going to save on the light bill? It's not WRLT Franklin yet though ( a night light way up in the air ).
