Pots for the Aphex Dominator/Compellor

Does anyone know where Aphex source their pots from?

I have a Dominator 720 here with some broken ones, and I've looked at pretty much every supplier I can think of including Mouser, Digikey, Ebay, Soanar, Alps and Alpha and I can't find the exact parts.

Most suppliers only have pots with fluted shafts. The ones used in the Aphex gear have standard D shafts approx 12 mm long.
They also have detents for the full travel of the shaft.

I have found one supplier with the right sort of pot, but the shafts are twice as long and I really don't want to have to start cutting the ends off (it's never clean). Also these ones don't have the detents.

It would help if I could identify the manufacturer of the ones used in the Aphex gear.
They have a T followed by a small circle with a stylised S ? in the centre - looks a bit like a cat's eye.

All suggestions gratefully accepted!

Your best bet would probably be to call Aphex themselves. They can probably supply you with the parts if you want a DIY repair.

I have approached the Aphex agent here in the past when I needed a pot for another of their products. It was going to cost in the region of $45 for ONE pot by the time it was freighted down here, so ordering six of them makes for a damned expensive repair.

Given how commonly used these little pots are, I am at a loss as to why I can't find a decent supplier of them.

I think the problem is that Studio1 is located outside the USA and for some reason the parts pricing goes nuts. I repaired two Aphex 204 exciters with Big Bottom where the in/out switches failed. I don't think the switches were any more than $4/each. I even purchased a replacement front panel for a 323a Compellor and it was pretty reasonable from what I remember, thou I don't recall the price.

You may wish to inquire if Aphex has an authorized agent in your home country who may stock the parts you need. Hopefully they will be less expensive than acquiring them from Aphex USA.

Thanks Bill, you are indeed correct. I am in New Zealand, at the bottom of the world. A lot of things are significantly more expensive due to the requirement to send them half way around the world to get them here.

There is an authorised Aphex agent here, and when I enquired a couple of years ago to source ONE pot for a Compellor 320A, it was going to cost me around NZ $30.
I suspect that they would be that price or more now, and I will inquire just out of curiosity.
I did inquire with them recently as to the cost for a new front panel for this thing, and I was told that if they bought it in from Aphex as a special one-off delivery, it would be around NZ $130.
If I wait until the local agent places their normal order, it will be around half of that.

Check on Ebay for a used dominator working or sold for parts.

Cheers for the suggestion, I'm checking every day. The only drawback is the shipping to get it here. A 1U box like this usually costs around NZ $70 - 90 to get it here.
