As you probably know, today is the Spring Arbitron ratings period for Poughkeepsie, let see what the numbers are between what's good and what's bad. Let's find out!
The good part of this ratings period is that WRWD is still #1 in the books for the second time in a row since the fall book, still beating "The Wolf" on the other hand, except for the Yankee games on the sports side. Last weekend, they had the All-Star game carried by ESPN Radio, but "The Wolf" sometimes carried the World Series from ESPN Radio every once in a while if the Yanks go to the World Series or if the loses, they will not be carrying the World Series from ESPN Radio on "The Wolf". I don't see any format changes from "The Wolf" by years end if they should flip to ESPN Radio to carry "Mike & Mike", "Dan Patrick" and a few others including generic sports games on ESPN Radio, will see what happens in the future if maybe they can speculated whether "The Wolf" continues to do poorly in the Fall book by January of 2009.
K-104 beats "Kiss-FM" in the ratings, WSPK is top 40 CHR and "Kiss-FM" is more like a KTU/Pulse 87/Hot 97/Power 105-ish kinda station and K-104 is doing well doing CHR, good job!
"Lite-FM" on 92.1 is doing okay, competing with WHUD and WZCX, all three of the AC stations are competitors, don't see any changes, except the one on 98.5 isn't showing on the Arbs, but it's a great station, more like "Fresh" which is on 102.7 in New York City doing much of the same and then throw a batch of 70's and 80's songs that CBS-FM plays now, but "Lite-FM" at 98.5 is a great station with my favorite Bob & Sheri, I like them better that Stern & O&A which I said this many times before. B&S are much cleaner than those two nasty shock jocks doing inappropriate stuff on the air. Give them credit, I listened to it on their podcast as well. there is a podcast where you can listen to B&S, it's available via RSS feed.

To get back to the ratings, WKIP is climbing up with the arrival of Don Imus from WABC which is now carrying his show on the station. Last week, Mark Simone from the WABC's "Saturday Night Oldies Show" is filling in Imus, because he was on vacation or something and it was heard on WKIP, no comment on other shows as well.
And now for the bad ratings in the Spring book and I just mentioned it a lot of times on these posts, WBPM is still up in the ratings after this terrible mess from the Fall book, the "Music Blimp" sounds good on Saturday night with Randy Turnip playing some New Wave 80's songs and a few early 90's stuff on there, good show and it has been on for 6 or 7 months since it started back in October, I started posting airchecks from that show from off the air and off of the stream. But the rest of the station, come on! Can't you play the right songs, look at CBS-FM, they just pick the right songs for this station, CBS-FM does not play songs by Aerosmith, the Cars, Van Halen, Def Leppard, ZZ Top and a few artists that does not play this wrong songs, WBPM also pick the songs that are mediocre and took it the wrong way. Some of them are rock, just like the one you hear on WPDH.
This is just the big ratings issue with this format, and as for one thing, what's wrong with the lists of stations and formats according to the Arbitron, it says "WRWD/WRWD-AM" listed there, also "WCZX/WZAD" also listed and WBPM as listed as Clear Channel instead of Pamal and the format "Oldies" instead of "Classic Hits". What wrong with that? Clear Channel sold the station back in February of 2007 where the station flipped the format to "Classic Hits 92.9" and it took the station in the wrong direction. I guess "Classic Hits 92.9" should morph into "Classic Rock 92.9" in the future to compete with WPDH and WDST.
Where is the oldies station in the Poughkeepsie? There is still no oldies station in the HV listening area, not right away but now we're stuck with WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" north of the HV area doesn't show up in the Arbs.
I don't see oldies or greatest hits station coming to the Hudson Valley anytime soon, I listened to WGNY-AM and it doesn't come out well in Kingston, it is an oldies station in Newburgh, if not, I'll be working on doing my podcast playing the oldies that everybody remembers the 50's through 80's right up to now. I might look forward to this very soon.
Any thoughts.
