Powell New Morning Man at The Peak

Saw today on allaccess.com that Chuck Powell has been named new morning man at the peak. I have to say this is a great choice. Even though I am a fan of Adam Carolla and am enjoying his free podcasts, I did miss powell in am drive. Awhile back we all thought the new pd would be moving the peak in a new direction, possibly modern ac. This would def lay the ground work. If this is what they are going to do, I would def try and lure some talent from the edge over, possibly the midday chick.

First, the former PD of Alternative 91X/San Diego is brought in.

Now they've signed on the former morning man of crosstown Alternative The Edge 103.9.

This cannot be a coincidence. Based on this, there's NO WAY 98.7 is still doing Variety Hits in a few months from now if not much sooner.

Are you saying that 98.7 might go Alternataive? I just can't see TMISU putting that format on one of their stations.

But Powell did do sports-talk at one time. Maybe KMVP Sports Parking Lot 98.7, simulcasted on 620? Hey, I can start wild, unfounded rumors with the best of them! ;D

Also, Mary Reilly appears to be gone from their website. What happened to her? Monica Nelson (who's been filling in mornings) is listed as 10 AM - 3 PM.

That's too bad. I remember when Mary Reilly filled in for Mary McCann (The Bone Mama) on KZON in the 90s and she got hate calls from people when they thought Mary Reilly was replacing Mary McCann.

Take care, Mary! I hope you find a new gig soon.

Any word on when he starts... or has he already?

My morning drive just hasn't been the same, I can't wait!

Who cares about the Peak now that KOOL is back.....well, sort of. :D

KOOL is back? Oh, you must mean back from the "Phoenix Christmas Music
Disaster 2008" (not to be confused with the New York Mining Disaster 1941). ;)

But then there's...these '80s songs mixed in. (And at no extra cost!)

The imaging appears to have changed…I heard a different male voice today. I’m not sure if the previous guy (who has been on there for years, even before the station became the Peak) is gone. The female voice remains intact as far as I can tell.

I believe his start date is the 23rd. Can not wait for Powell in mornings

The Peak should follow what KYSR in L.A. did is drop its name, go modern ac at first and then merge into alternative with no name just the position on the dial.

I caught a few moments of Chuck Powell this morning on my drive in to work. From what little I heard, I think Chuck can pull-off the solo morning show. Not the easiest task when you are used to working with a team of people on a morning show, but Chuck is talented and will do well.

He repeated the same theme I heard him use when he started on the Zone: "I am not good at multitasking." One transition from bumper music to "Pete" Gabriel was a bit rough, but then again, Chuck is in a new studio and probably made the mistake to chew gum and try to run the board.  ;)

I'll be tuning in again tomorrow to check out day two of Chuck Powell's "First 100 days" at The Peak.  ;D

Yeah I agree, he was a little rusty or maybe just in a new environment. I hope in the future they loosen up the amount of music that is played in am drive and give chuck the time to do what he does best.

The last thing the radio world needs is another 'sound like another station' station. Please, there are too many cookie cutter formats out there as is. The Peak does good with a larger range of artist/cuts vs. other stations. They seem to be playing on this fact with the current liners for not repeating a song in a day.

These days I usually I'm not up early enough to hear morning radio. I am glad that the Peak is giving the new guy a chance at doing it solo. The thing the Peak needs, IMO is more personality interaction vs. what it has had in the past. The thing a new morning show needs is a good balance of personality and music. If this new guy (I understand he's not new to the market) brings the personality, then I think Peak has the music library in place to make a go at it in morning drive time.

As far as formatics, the stations that do best are usually the ones that lead people to belive they are going to do something and then don't do it. Peak might have a new PD and morning man, respectively with experience in alternative, but their past background might be what the Peak wants to get other station(s) "antsy". If you want proof of that tune into 96.9 for a while and tell me what you here ;)

That's great! and talk times will decrease as soon as Phx starts getting the PPM data back...

I heard Powell do a segment of That Guy this morning. I love this segment. Now we just need News from the Edge errrr I mean Peak.

Ok I spoke too soon, this morning I heard News to Peak your interest, LOVE IT. Powell sure has been missed in am drive in the valley
