POWER 106.7 AIRSTAFF ???

I have my own opinions of the Power airstaff but I want to know some thoughts accross the "board"

UB-Mornings
J Deezy-Middays
ChiChi-Afternoons
TinoCochino-Nights

As far as rating the jocks myself...

;D
UB-Sounds Great, Informative, keeps you listening, so I would say he is a talented Jock but sounds limited by the "Powers" that be. What happened to his cohost??? A Single Jock Morning show sounds so small market as if instead of being market# 29 they are market size #310 ( Arb only rates to 309 ... I know that.... im just making a point) Please dont reply about budgets ... budgets can be worked.
Rate him a -9.0 (let him loose)

:(
Jay Deezy- Not much to say ... regular run of the mill Jock. Doesnt sound bad but doesnt sound good either. Talks to much when he opens the mic. I know Cox controls when you talk but he has to limit his self when he does open that mic. Not that it rest on his shoulders but the Midday mixes are so so ... but I guess its ok when u got a so so Jock. Dont get me wrong the actual mixes are good its just song selection.... wah wah wah.
Rate him a - 6.00

Chi Chi- Fresh Air.... that what she sounds like.
Being in this business for so long its hard to find and listen to jocks that get it.
I counted 6 of her breaks that each only had a brief "one thought per set". After doing research on her I see she comes from a Big Market, Top 10 I think. That explains her skill level for this Market. As far as her show goes I wish Cox would losen the rains and maybe give her some show features.
Rate her a - 9.25

8)
Tino Cochino- Honetsly .... sounds good on the radio .... but still has sooooo much to learn. Talks a bit much for my taste but what night jock doesnt. Sounds like a mini me of Paul Wall but for Texas that is good thing. I hope he heeds the advice of jocks who have been in the biz along time and have been successful at it too. Experience is never improvised.
Give him a - 7.0

I can’t stand the last two you mentioned for one reason. They can’t help but YELL at the end of a song that you may be enjoying at a higher than normal volume. (because your into the song) Honestly that gets on my nerves!!! They tend to not let a song finish and break in with drivel such as POWER 106.7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why can’t they let the song finish for Christ sakes!!!!

Their crappy playlist superceed any feelings I have towards their airstaff.

???
Screaimng ? They sound Energetic to me. They must be doing something right cause ratings over at power continue upward.

As far the other post about the playlist ... this post was about Airstaff... not playlist.
Create a separate post about playlist or dont answer at this one at all. People now a days cant seem to read and respond to questions at hand and want to tend to their agenda or put there 2 cents were it doesnt belong.

I dont mean to be a b**ch but come on people.... Focus !

The only thing I hate about most of these industry boards is that people cant be honest and take sides because of where they work. Thats why we are here is to critic each other to make the industry better(if thats possible).

From personal experience ... you dont know who you will be working with or for in the future.
Just some advice from a seasoned vet.

I still stand by my original post ....

Chi Chi
and
UB
best talent they got.

As far as the CoHost from mornings dont know where she went or why but yes .... she sounded great !!!!!!!

Since you want to cry about what I posted then fine, I will toss in my two cents. They have no quality airstaff. Chi Chi being the best out of all of them. But being a woman myself, even she annoys me at times. So I can only listen to her in small doses. But other than content her talent on the air stands out. Tino seems like he is a cool guy but he needs a lot of work. There is a line between energetic, and being fake. I think we all know he doesnt use his real voice. His breaks need to be shorter and more to the point. Oh and he needs to stop playing that god awful song "grip'n wood wheel" or however it goes.

[EDIT]

tino is good. better than ham who says nothing and does nothing but the same tired crap every night. don't tell me how great ham's numbers are. hes had noone to compete with him. they will fall. hes already looking for other gigs.

[EDIT] Say whatever you want about me, your comments dont effect me. But what you said about Hamm true or not is just wrong. What if he was looking for a new gig in secret? I have nothing good or bad to say about Hamm but that was a low blow. [EDIT]

oh yea, and if you really think no one is any good there, u may get your wish for new talent. Karina left and I hear UB is on his way out too, very soon. So sad... So Sad... The station is loosing its Power quickly.

Actually Corina (not Karina) returned to Phoenix to do mornings at KZON/Phoenix with fellow KZZP alumnis Krazy Kid & Ruben.

UB is leaving ? ??? Whoa ! Thats nuts ... not even a year and the station cant keep there Talent?? Must say alot about the PD and staff in that building.

UB has talent so Im sure if looks he will have offers left and right. Im glad to see Corina go to Phoenix cause she was also talented.

The station sounds good, but the beat is better. The guy UB in the morning is the worst jock in the entire market. he sounds like an amature and I'm sure his ratings prove it because everybody I know says he's lame and unfunny. I like all the other jocks its the music. they play the same songs over and over. ??? ??? ???

Trust me, Tino isn't fake in any sense of the word. What you see and what you hear is what you get. He's the same guy on and off the mic, at least around people that really know him. Tino has a wicked, crazy sense of humor. If he turns that on when he's off the air, you hear the same Tino you hear on the air.

And even if he didn't use his "real voice" on the air, so what? If his breaks are a bit long sometimes, who cares? Radio as an industry isn't fashionable anymore. It isn't trendy. What got us to this point is 20 years of consultants telling the talent to be short, to the point and relatable. From the 50s to the late 80s jocks were celebrities in their communities. People showed up at remotes and promotions just to see them because they projected larger than life personas. These days, does anyone show up anywhere just to meet the air talent? Not really, but hey - they're short, to the point and relatable.

Talent, and especially unique talent like Tino is what makes radio more appealing than the iPod.

^^^ I think if any major market PD and or consultant heard/read what you just wrote, you would never work in this industry again. What you wrote is small market thinking. I am not even calling Tino out on this one but your comments were really ignorant. Do you honestly think any major top 10 market is going to want a guy who is all over the road? Not only that, a guy who doesnt even use his real voice? So since you think these arent a very big deal allow me to correct your way of thinking and tell you straight up "no". Major market PDs toss those kind of airchecks in the trash. Plus, a jocks character is irrelevant. I have met many "good" people (character-wise) in this business but that in no way stopped them from losing their job when their numbers werent good.

I have listened to Tino and a major advantage he has is that he is doing things that havent ever been done in this market or havent done in a really long time. I do happen to know how young he is so he also has his youth as an advantage. To be realistic he has nothing but time to shape him into a better jock. Hey we all need work, myself included. But I would have to agree on the "real voice" issue at hand.

Oh and radioman100, I wasnt talking trash. I was simply saying that your way of thinking goes against the grain of professional procedures.

i just wish STEALINGyourAUDIENCEgirl worked on power. she's a 10 year radio vet.

MINDonDAradio247

Is the only person that really makes sense out of most of the post on radioinfo. He/She makes several good points with the main one being is that we all have room to grow and if you dont think so then its time to retire.

Without saying my exact job description (which could get my canned) I travel alot and listen to alot of Markets (hint...lol) and alot Jocks(uhOh) and Power 106.7 is pretty middle of the road. I will stand by UB(good), Chi Chi(best), and Tino (with room to grow).

I wish that Power would identify more with the market and have promotions that relate but that isnt what this thread is about ... its about the jocks.

Power vs the Beat is pretty much a wash .... they both have pros and cons ... but Power has more room to move around since they are new. If they can loosen up and sound more like SaTown then they'll win in their format.

Im done

BTW- Much respect to all those who actually love the business.... and work to be "in radio", not to "work for radio" !

Amazingly enough, I do all this "small market" thinking from my top 10 market office. Imagine that...

As I write this, I'm sitting here watching Craig Ferguson on my TV. He does "The Late Late Show" on CBS. I'm sure he works goofy faces and sound effects into all of his daily conversations, and that must be the "real" Craig Ferguson. (He just made a bunch of goofy faces set to sound effects and the audience roared.)

Why would CBS put a talent on the air that isn't completely real? Didn't anyone ever tell him that's not how it's done?

Radio is theater of the mind. Talent is whoever the audience thinks they are. If they're really good talent, they're whoever the talent wants the audience to think they are.

Anyway... We all get graded on our performance in this business, and I understand young Tino has been getting good grades. That's all that really matters.
