Power 106 faltering against 92.3?

In February so far it is averaging 10th in 18-49 (and that is the core demo for Black and Hispanic buys). It is up from around 15th or 16th the prior 6 months.

Power has always, historically, had much larger Hispanic audiences than Black and the market, in 18-49, is over 50% Hispanic and not even 10% African American. So they have to follow Hispanic tastes first.
At this rate they got to do something. I noticed other Rhythmic outlets are jumping on Tiesto, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, and Bebe Rexha lately. Even Taylor Swift’s “Lavender Haze” has shown up on KEZE Spokane. KPWR should go back to being a trendsetter IMHO.
My thoughts exactly. KRRL and KDAY are already serving the hip hop crowd but in different ways for their core audience.

Today’s youth don’t know how good Power was back in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Lina Santiago and Angelina had bangers in 1996 and Power played those records around the clock.
A lot of them don't even listen to FM radio at all, instead sticking to YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming services. At least through the various mixshows on YouTube, Soundcloud, and Mixcloud the station's better days will be preserved.

Nielsen, Mediabase, and Billboard still has KPWR listed as Rhythmic and still adds currents on Mediabase’s Rhythmic panel but has reduced the amount of Hip-Hop product it has added and incorporated a few Rhythmic charting titles from Raye, Rema/Selena Gomez, and Pink Pantheress.
I regularly monitor the station by looking at its "What Was That Song" page every day and it appears that, as of late, they've stopped playing so many throwbacks and is once again more current-based than they were a couple months ago. I guess it's to avoid overlap with their sister station KDAY and the fact that Real is kicking their butt.

Same here I also listen to the radio through my apps. I’m not surprised that Power has gone back being current because sister station KDAY is already focusing on gold hip hop/R&B. Around this time last year I heard Power play Ashanti “Foolish”(2002), Tony! Toni! Toné Let’s Get Down, etc like they were new records.

Is Power 106 going to back to playing rhythmic pop/dance. Are they going to give up the direct competition to KRRL since it’s painfully obvious that Power is still failing in the ratings.
Power is still quite heavy on the hip-hop. They never truly quit playing the occasional Rhythmic Pop/Dance tracks. It's just that after 2015, the Rhythmic format in general gradually grew more urban-sounding (like in the late 90s/early 2000s) to the point that Power could seemingly return to its urban lean. But now in 2023, that might be changing if Rhythmic will once again become more dancey.

IMO Power 106 will never give up on hip hop but if the rhythmic chart starts to giving dance the time of day, you can bet that the station will follow suit. I wish they never got rid of Powertools or the Old School noon mix.

January: Real 3.9, Power 3.1. That is almost close enough to be within the margin of error at that level.

And, since agencies buy rating and not share, both of them had a 0.2 in the last book.

Same here.
I agree. When I look at the Rhythmic charts it’s more favorable towards afrobeats, a few Dance-centric pop titles, Hispanic rhythmic tracks and multi-collaborations. I’m looking at the Rhythmic reporters as well and I’m surprised to see how a station like WDHT Dayton or WZPW Peoria are reflecting this move and its starting to affect other outlets like KSFM Sacramento, KDGS Wichita, KKSS Albuquerque and KOPW Omaha.
