Power 106 Impact?

Ok so what are your thoughts on what will happen in the near future? What is to become of 98.5? What will they change? Will power sort of relaunch with jocks after their 10,000 songs? What is to become of Mix? Up or down for now the only Top 40 station in the market?

My opinion.... this market is going to get even more flooded with hip hop music. Still dont know if a certain amount of people will get sick of that and flip to 96.1. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

welcome to San Antonio, this is just what we needed, Univision has to much control over Sa so now this is a good sign cause now that have to step up to keep up, its about time, heart beats are a time in the past, Give it 2/3 wks Power will probaly have a morning show and about another wk or late this wk probaly some on air dj's....

I wouldn't underestimate Cox, whose track record with Rhythmics are very good, and all you have to do is look at the fortunes of WBTS/Atlanta, WPYO/Orlando, KPHW/Honolulu, WHZT/Greenville and WBHJ/Birmingham. Chances are that they will siphon off their competitors' audience in more ways than one.

As far as KBBT is concerned you can bet they are well aware of their new competitor so expect them to up the ante, especially when it comes to who can lay claim to who plays the most Hip-Hop in San Antonio.

In the case of KXXM, they now see an opportunity to reclaim the former Z106.7 listeners and probably see a spike in their numbers. Musically, they might scale back on the Rhythmic and Hip-Hop product but still keep it balanced.

The Beat is gonna be sold by this time next year and they'll go after Mix...but remember the market is still growing...so we'll probably have; eventually, two of every format.

The Beat is not going to be sold. It is a core part of reaching SA Hispanics. Where did you get such a strange idea?

The format that will likely be gone this time this year is Recuerdo on 95.1.

As for The Beat, it will still be here and it will still be dominating the ratings. Power is good but I don't see Cox investing real money to make this station a true competitor.

Wel it took long enough but it happened. I know that a friend of mind has a meeting with doug next week for a gig. Now this is what I am told will happen. They will have jocks after the month. They will keep this format for a couple of years. Unless cox has changed their ways they will not invest alot of money into the station. As for the beat, they will keep going and they will spread their music format. They are not dumb. Most of them were employed by Ktfm and they know what ktfm did wrong. So they learn from the mistake of ktfm. Now as for the beat being sold. Maybe. Only because univision has been sold to televista and associates, if I am correct. So there is that possibility. Remember televista and univision have been back and forth about money, so it could happen just to piss off univision. In my opinion I don't think this will happen.

Honestly? I think that the big winner here is going to be country. Yes, country! If Power manages even to take a 2-3 share from the Beat we willl see a shift in the overall 12+ numbers. Gone will be the powerhouse 8 and 9 share numbers and those with 5 and 6 highs will place first. Lately that's been the two country outlets. I would look for one of them to be the No. 1 12+ by spring or summer of this next year. With a new PD coming in for Y100 that may make it an interesting battle.

I would also think that Mix as the lone CHR will see a rise but maybe not until the fall 2007. It will take a while for the dust to settle.

What are you smoking?

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

As you will see....the beat will suffer the same downfall as ktfm........so it will be a second time some of their staffers go through it

its easy to manage and program a station with no direct competition and maintain as the market leader......but with a direct competitor calling out your weaknesses....

Power can only go up...the beat can only go down! its the "ktfm" law of gravity! (evryone laugh with me)

on the real

cmon

why go after the beat??

radiotex is right.....knock some points off the beat.....brings kono, kj, y100, kiss ,kxtn into the the top 5

you will see mix get a bump if they dont try to compete hiphop and try to own top 40/m

cox radio is stubborn and slow, but not stupid...it benifits them to flip z to power to attack the market leader and propel their other stations to the top....

rememeber kids....its not about whos cooler...its about who makes the most money!!!!

I'm not defending Nikki but I think The Beat will remain at number #1 in 12+ and 18-34. Unless, Cox Radio decides to spend money on commercials and billboards then things might be different. As for Mix 96.1, I wouldn't expect a big jump in there numbers.

Jammin 94.1- I've bash this stations several times but I must say that the station sounds better now that they've adjusted there playlist. The mixshow from the Bonham Exchange also sounds better. Look for Jammin numbers to get a big boost upwards.

By the way, Country will not be the top format in S.A.

Receurdo is top 10 25-54, and is doing huge billing.

saradio i love how you think you know so much about radio. in reality you are a radio wannabe b****. you prove it in every post.

quick english lesson genius. you said: "that the station sounds better now that they've adjusted there playlist."

idiots like you make me crazy. learn that it's "THEIR" playlist. idiot.

why would jammin's numbers have a "big boost upward," oh great one? look at the format nationwide (and others like it). if you knew what you were talking about you would know these stations spike big in the beginning only to settle into mid pack. they've already seen their best days. man are you smart!

Umm, lets see, Jammin was #1 when they originally signed on playings 70's and 80's. When 94.1 started eliminating their 80's and focus on 70's and 60's, the decline in their numbers started.

******boy, if you want to meet in person....Please let me know. Send me private message and I'll be happy too meet you.

Most who have analyzed Jammin' believe that, simply, the library burnt just like all the other Jammin's in the US previous to this one.

98.5 is going to adjust because of their new competition. It is apparent that they can sell the station and believe it or not they have many loyal listeners. I dont know why, but they do. Although I do think the 12+ days are gone.

I heard about the new station on here and was wondering if I could here it all the way in Bryan/College Station, so I flipped over to 106.7 and Bam! There it was, you can here it all the way down here. I had no idea we could get San Antonio radio stations. I know we can get Houston, Dallas and Austin, but I never knew we could get San Antonio. Now I have a new Station to listen to. (if its not that staticy)

Well, what kidn of radio are you using? I can't even pick up The Beat 104.3 here in College Station. I've heard 106.7 a couple of timess, but that was during trong tropo summer nights!
