It just drove my generation crazy during the summer when school was out. As far the ratings go KMJK was never able to beat KPRS mainly because of the signal being too far up north. Car reception was good but in a house or walkman the signal was static. I think KMJK moved its tower to North Kansas City a few years back for better coverage. Currently they are the lowest rated FM in Kansas City I been listening lately on Tune In and the playlist is dull.

It's funny how after I come back to Phoenix from Tucson that I'm no longer satisfied with Phoenix rhythmic and top 40 radio!

I miss hearing these songs - all on one station, in regular rotation:

Big Sean - Marvin & Chardonnay (w/ Kanye West & Roscoe Dash)
Kanye West & Jay-Z - Otis (w/ Otis Redding)
Drake - Headlines
Black Eyed Peas - Don't Stop The Party
Lupe Fiasco - Out Of My Head (w/ Trey Songz)
Kelly Rowland - Motivation (w/ Lil Wayne)
LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It

At least Power 106 plays ALL of them!

Sick of hearing pop tracks on Hip Hop stations.
Programmers are finally realizing that they dont mix. FOlks want to hear HIP HOP not hip-POP.

Urban AC you have Hot 92 and KJLH.

KDAY is a loss. Their signal is weak and they shoulda just been current hip hop period. They could have had a great niche for the market since KPWR was lost.

Now KPWR trying to recover what they used to have.
The old days of KKBT vs KPWR were best.

KHHT is Rhythmic Oldies and KJLH is Urban Contempary. KDAY played current music but it never was a success. They couldnt even get over a 1.0 share with the Mainstream Urban format even before KKBT/KRBV exited LA. Their Classic Hip Hop format is performing much better and it appeals to latinos and blacks. Notice how KDAY sounds like the old KPWR.

Yes Power 106 plays everything which is Hip Hop, R&B with a hip hop style while showing us a diverse style of Hip Hop & R&B without playing Lady Gaga. BTW KDM 7000, Remember Delinquent Habit's Tres Delinquents from 1995-96. That song hit #1 on Power 106 during the week of April 23, 1996. I'm not saying Power 106 should play it in rotation but during their mixes because they played it enough in early 1996. They're a few songs that Power 106 is playing right now that I'm loving such as Bad Meets Evil Lighters, DJ Felli Fel's Bommerang ft Pitbull, Jermaine Dupri & Akon and Dev's Dancing in the Dark. It just dawned on me, Monifah's 1998 hit Touch It had a strong dance pop influenced R&B feel that's popular now. Power 106 can play Monifah's Touch It during their mix shows too.
