power 90?

I don't listen to Power 96 very often, but just the other day i tuned in. The jock said "Power 90." I didn't really think much of it. He was chatting with the sidekick chick. I just thought he didn't finish his sentence. But I tuned in again a few hours later and heard the same thing. And this morning, again, "Power 90."
(I suppose in the PPM world, you could really call yourself anything -- doesn't really matter.....)

Their website is now http://whereisthesix.com/

I guess it's a promotion, but I dont really understand it, even after watching the video on the website..

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was just another of the many (Arrrrrrr!) pirates in this town.

I guess you have to be from Hialeah and under the age of 21 to understand this promotion....

It's a variation of the oooooold "missing call letter" promotion.

That's where "WXYZ" would call itself "WXY" (except at legal ID) and have a contest to "find" the missing "Z" and win something.

In other words, you have to be old enough to remember WQAM's Tiger mascot and WFUN-79!

Uhm, you mean WGG in Gainesville wasn't the only one doing it?
And now I know (RIP, Paul Harvey) the rest of the story.

I think the "six" is being used to replace the word "sex" at times - as in "We lost our sex"
Again, perfect for 12 year olds.

Has power totally lost their way? Who is running things over there, a 12 year old?

Yeah, they have "lost" themselves right back to the top 3 in its target demo.

Remember the last time a Miami station just > 96 MHz had a contest to find something "missing"? :D

Top 3 in a three man race. (99.1, Y, and Power)

That's pretty much last place in the target demo ???

No, that's pretty much a snarky reply.

And, anyhow, Power came out 2nd in 18-34 in the latest book, almost a full point ahead of Y-100. In the latest week, Power is close to tying for the top in the demo... so the Tanner / Ferro team is obviously bringing instant results to Power.

In a market like Miami, the top 5 to 6 English stations in 18-34 will get on most buys... that means WEDR, Power, Y-100, WHQT and WMIA. Further, at least the top Spanish language stations in the demo, WRTO and WMGE, will consistently get bought.

While having a little higher share can justify a slightly higher rate, in general those top stations are so competitive that they all will have high billings. While you have to come in first in Daytona or in a political race, being in the "must buy" group of perhaps 10 stations in a demo is all it takes in radio.

To demonstrate that, in the last year for which we have billings rankers, 2011, WHYI, WHQT, WEDR, WMGE, WLYF, WFLC, WXDJ and WPOW were all within 1/- $2 million in billing of each other. The leader, and way ahead of all the rest, was, of course, WAMR.

so what WAS the whole "90 - where's our 6" promotion? I tuned in yesterday and they were already back to saying "96" and the jock even said "god it feels good to finally say that again"

they weren't possibly flipping frequencies with 99.9 were they?
