Power 95.5 takes RM ratings?

I saw where WPWZ is #1 in Rocky Mount. Finally beat the "big boys," huh?

That's a first for 95.5, isn't it? Quite an accomplishment for a small-market station knocking heads with a Top 50 market gun.

97.5 lowered power and is on a smaller tower in Durham now... they probably can no longer be heard in Rocky Mount.

Not saying that 95.5 isn't good, just that without competition it's not hard to get better ratings.

No, no--K97.5 (WQOK) has never been the problem--they've always been an also-ran in Rocky Mount. It's Foxy that's been ruling the roost there for years. And they still pulled a 9 share in RM--good for #2. I think that flamethrower at 104.3 still comes in on toasters in Rocky Mount. Nothing wrong with their signal.

It's Foxy they whipped. And that's a pretty good accomplishment.

K97.5 used to always get about a 5 in RM, when they disappeared its obvious those listeners switched to 95.5. I don't care what anyone says, really a stupid move on the part of Radio One. They'll move and downgrade 104.3 if they get a chance, blowing that audience too. Off topic, but when I was in Cary Christmas, I realized I could no longer get clear reception of WQOK on my walkman or my brother's $9.00 clock radio. Yeah, R-1 really improved 97.5 reception in the metro area...

97.5 going away is the only reason I can imagine that Power 95.5 increased so much. The audience of 104.3 and 95.5 are not the same.

Going back the last couple years (Fall 09-Spring 10-Fall 10) the 12+ trends here on this site show QOK going 4.1 to 4.1 to 3.3--consistently a distant third among the urban contemps, or fourth if you toss FXC into the mix.

Foxy had been steady at a 10.6 to 10.6, but dropped a bit this time to a 9.1--still plenty strong, but enough of a wobble to allow Power to slip past them.

PWZ shows a steady climb--from 6.9 to 8.5 to 9.9. Maybe they've taken a little from both Foxy and K97.5... and maybe a little from WRSV, too, as they've gone 7.3 to 6.5 to 6.2.

So... a share from QOK, a share from Foxy and a share from RSV... takes you from a 6.9 to a 9.9.

Ratings experts will tell you that it's never that simple--and they're probably right. But at least it's logical--and the math works.
