Power 96-1 Audio

If only CBS had a CHR there. :-\

They'd be much more serious about success.

You realize that every CHR CBS owns is losing except for San Fran where there's no full-signal competition

My point was that they'd probably have the Power to make an Atlanta CHR just as big as they did with their Atlanta Urban.

And since Atlanta is unique, it probably isn't right in this case to compare it to what's going on in other cities. After all, having all urbans in the top 10 is just as unusual as thinking a CBS CHR could have succeeded in Atlanta, but it still happened.

I think Clear Channel does a great Job with CHR's KIIS LA Z100 NYC Kiss 106 Dallas Y100 Miami
and many more

CBS CHR's suck Now 92.3 NYC hasn't touched Z100
Amp in LA is ok but KIIS still wins in LA

Other than Chicago WBBM 96.3 Where does CBS beat CC in the CHR Battle ???
Not Deroit?

I know ClearChannel has good CHR's almost everywhere else. But the one company that has had consistent success in Atlanta is CBS, which is why I hypothesize that if WVEE were a heritage CHR instead of heritage Urban, then Atlanta probably would've had a long term successful CHR that would've been better than average.

Uh, not exactly. In the case of 99.7 NOW in San Francisco, they do have competition from CC's Wild 94.9 which is rhythmic. And yet they are both in the Top 10 overall in ratings there.

If you're going to count Rhythmics as competition, then you also have to count Hot AC, and probably Alternative - in some markets, even Country and Urban

99.7 NOW is obviously doing well, but they have no CHR competition except for a low-signal station

And not only consistent success, but CBS also seems to have always consistently cared about making their station sound full, fun, and live while also keeping up the ratings. Can't say the same for anyone who has tried a CHR in Atlanta for the past 2 decades except for Susquehanna. As a matter of fact, quite a few owners LET the stations they tried fail. I'll never in my life understand the things that were allowed to happen at WiLD shortly after they achieved their first 3.7 ratings (and I also don't understand why Power was launched around the time WiLD's ratings were back up... they could've just moved the already fixed somewhat known WiLD to 96.1).

Star 94?

CBS is probably the worst company, nationwide, in terms of having their CHRs "keep up the ratings" - I respect the job they did with WVEE, but I also feel like Urban is almost a guaranteed audience, especially in a market which is 33% black, so I'm not sure how much of their success truly had to do with CBS

Just wondering - do you feel like CBS has had a lot to do with WVEE's success?

Ask the folks down the hall at 92.9 how that's worked out for them over the years.

I will give CBS credit for making chicken salad out of WAOK.

Question: Did CBS/Infinity own WZGC and/or WVEE back in Z-93's mid-80s CHuRban days?

Wasn't it General Cinemas then Viacom then Infinity then CBS?

Z93 was General Cinema, then First Media, then (I think) Cook Inlet Partners, then Infinity which became CBS.

V-103 was originally Plough, then DKM, then Summit, then Infinity which became CBS.

V-103 has been a monster station for years, way before CBS owned it. But CBS has been a great steward of V-103.
