Power 96-1 Sweepers Mention Q100

Power 96-1 is running sweepers that mention Q100. Examples are: "This song's a big hit, and Q100 still isn't playing it," and "A song you won't hear on Q100."

The original Q100, when it was programmed by Dylan Sprague, used to run the same kind of sweepers mentioning Star 94.

I remember growing up and the top 40 stations in my hometown would mention their competors all the time. Didn't Y-106 mention Kicks back in the day when they battled each other?

That's pretty hypocritical lol - Power still isn't playing "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" (#9 CHR), "That Power" by Will.Iam (#11 CHR), "The Way" (#12 CHR), and "Next To Me" (#19 CHR), while Q100 is playing every song in the Top 20

The "biggest hit" that Q100 isn't playing is "Clarity", which is at #21

Q100 should be using that sweeper against them...

^I know - it's just the fact that Q100 could so easily use that same sweeper

I think Power should use a sweeper like "Wall-to-wall hits, without the songs your parents listen to"

They now play all the hits? This must mean Q100 FINALLY plays all the Macklemore hits. I cannot tell since I'm not sure where to go to see station plays list for Q100 anymore.

Power 96.1 is a mediocre station, and I expect their ratings to get worse with time if changes are not made.

No local morning show
No local midday show
Mediocre music

Pretty tough to deliver a CHR that sounds more lame than a Jan Jeffries CHR. Clear Channel somehow has managed to pull off that feat. Why am I not surprised this has happened at CC's ATL cluster? Usually, CC CHR's knock the crap out of any Cumulus CHR in the same market (excluding the Citadel CHRs that Cumulus inherited). Although, I will say the only reason Q100 is a stronger station than Power overall is The Bert Show.

When does The Bert Show's current contract expire? I'm thinking CC is going to throw a big wad of cash at them in an effort to entice them to cross the street.

I'm not sure of the details, but I don't think Bert now works for Q100. I think he works for a company that syndicates his show, and as I recall, Cumulus was planning to purchase part (or maybe all) of that company.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I tried to say it a few days ago in another post, but what ended up coming out instead was "I wish CBS owned a chr in Atlanta." lol

I feel like if CBS owned a rhythmic or even top 40 chr that was as heritage as V103, maybe people would've gottewn more used to chr over the years to the point where regular rhythmics and chr's seemed normal there. But being that everything has been so urban or rockish over the decades it seems as if things got stuck that way and no one can accept anything mixed up or in between. Then there was the huge rise of hip hop in late 90's and early 2000's that only helped solidify the urbanization of Atlanta and it seems as if overall, urban won in the end. Now the result is six urbans (I'm sure many inspired by the huge success of CBS's V-103) and a mediocre pop rock leaning chr, an adult chr that's often confused as a regular chr in ATL, an AC that many think is another chr, then there is lost Power trying to do something.... possibly trying to go straight after Q, but you can't really tell based on music decisions made there alone.

Then there was WiLD who had two chances at succeeding but it was destroyed both times. One by a bad MD/PD and another when Power killed it before Power themselves began to suffer a little. Hmmmmm. Bermuda Triangle?

That's a pretty big "chicken or the egg" argument, KDM - do you believe that if Phoenix, San Francisco, or L. A. had been "used to" a Hot-AC leaning CHR all these years, then a new Hot AC-leaning CHR would currently be getting huge ratings?

@MarkW - a Rhythmic-leaning CHR beating out a more mainstream CHR in a market which is not heavily Hispanic/Asian is almost unheard of, no matter who owns the stations - for Clear Channel to beat out Q100, IMO they'd have to shift to the center musically (which would be a big risk, since they can currently count on a core listener base)

In Phoenix? No, lol. At least not if the new Hot AC leaning CHR is KMVA!  ;D

But I do see how it could be a big chicken or egg statement.
