Power 96 shifts to gold-friendly CHR

IMHO Mediabase needs to update their reporting panels, but returning WPOW to Rhythmic is a start. Now if they can bring sister station WNVZ Norfolk back to the Rhythmic panel…

That's done by the chart editor. Some editors are more active than others. I notice they recently moved WTDY to Hot AC. It's been in that format since the spring. Record labels have the option of challenging a station's reporting format. If their promo team is getting rebuffed by the station during their weekly calls and uses the format as a reason why they won't add or upgrade a song, the head of promotion can contact the chart editor and demand a change.

WBBM is still listed as a CHR reporter, and that was one of the first to reduce their currents, as noted in the OP.

WNVZ is moving to Rhythmic in the next update of the panel. That may have happened in the last week or so, or maybe it's this upcoming week.

Yes, it's a thing. Here's an article about country arists getting played on CHR and Hot AC:

It depends on the market. It's more pronounced in the south and midwest. Less in the coasts. But where you really see it taking hold is on the Billboard Hot 100 and the streaming charts.
Luke Combs Fast Car I think. Plays on CHR and AC stations too.

Morgan and Jelly Roll don't play on AC stations but they play on Hot AC and CHR stations.

Jelly Roll's Need a Favor charts at #26 this week on Mediabase AC.

Morgan Wallen's Last Night & Wasted On You charted in Billboard AC

Of course it doesn't take a lot of spins to chart in the 20s on the AC chart.

With WNVZ shifting from Mainstream Top 40 to Rhythmic Top 40, it means the Norfolk market has no true Top 40 station. It is #12 in the latest ratings.

That #12 is a big improvement from where they were a few months back.

Thus the state of CHR and why they're adjusting the music mix with gold or rhythmic. Nobody will be rushing to replace them in the format.

WMOV might if they weren't planning to do the Christmas thing in November. It is unlikely they will flip to CHR because it would mean giving up the Christmas music thing and they wouldn't be able to do it if they did that. Also, they are usually a Rhythmic AC but they could flip 105.1 back to CHR if they wanted to which is highly unlikely as well as that did not succeed. Most likely if they were to flip any station to CHR it would probably be "The Beat" changing it from Classic Hip Hop and changing its name to something like "Power" unless they do the same thing as in Tulsa and just change the logo.
