Power 96 Today is 96x

The April fools format where they are calling themselves 96x complete with imaging has been a real blast. Power 96 all day today is playing their format from the early 90s Freestyle, dance (house) and hip-hop. It's very cool that they did this, but honestly, there should be a frequency dedicated to this in this market. Everyone talks about Rythmic AC, what's wrong with the playlist they have on today.

The programming today would be good enough to be a standalone station, Anyone agree?
 
I hope that, that isn't a joke and they are really going to change to classic hip hop and dance, I love that style of music, man.

It's been pretty cool and they paid some attention to detail, what with Laz's *beeper* going off constantly and all this morning. However, they were firmly establishing that it was 1993 during the morning show, having Bill Clinton on as the newly elected president and everything. In spite of that like I was saying in another post, "96X" was last used in '86 by them, and on Valentine's 1981 by their predecessor on the 96.3 frequency; Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise", which they've been playing throughout the day, didn't come out until 1995; "Casanova's" in Hialeah, where they were promoting a phony freestyle concert for *this coming weekend* was shuttered down by then too.

Not trying to be a stick in the mud, 'cause the music has been great. I just couldn't help noticing that stuff. ;D
 
Was the mtv music video awards only doing their second annual? I think mega 94.9 should be taking notes and try to make this their new station

Agreed: 96.5 HD2 should be 96X.

This is even better than 94-9 ZETA's April Fool 1999 stunt as 94.9 Groovy FM, playing nothing but cheesy '70s pop. Legend I heard this stunt had a part in Planet Radio's flip to Mega in the summer, preceding 103.5 going 70's/80's rhythmic on the weekends. Any truth? David?

Oh, one other thing, even just for ONE day, the WRONG era for 96.3/.5, since Stuart hasn't popped up yet: KEEP ON X'in!

Did anyone record any of this stunt that you could maybe post an mp3 link here on Radio Info. I listen to power 96 online alot in Indiana, I think its one of the best rhythmic chr in the u.s, both the playlist and the lively up beat jocks. The one day I wasnt listening to it they went and did this, I would have loved to have heard this, I would have locked myself in my room all day and listened non stop...... Both Power 96 and Y-100 were both some of my favorite radio stations as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s, right up there with Power 933 flz in Tampa, and of course z100 in New York. All these stations remind me of vacation trips as a kid....

They played a lot of classic hip hop, Freestyle and Dance, dude it was awesome, where were you that you didn't listen??????? SHAME ON YOU :p lol
 
Dude, I was in Indiana, I live here, but I listen to Power 96 online alot, and also Y-100 sometimes. I think I was listening to xm most of the day on april first.

Shame on you for not taping it for me....lol ;D :D ;)
 
so did i after work.. I listened most of the day at work, they were heavy on the dance and freestyle, the 5 oclock traffic jam was real kool.. then after 6 they shifted to mostly old school hip hop, i heard one freestyle song, i recorded from about 7pm until 10pm, got dj defs mixshow.. he threw down some old freestyle and booty bass... i have it saved in mp3 format, any1 got any old school mixshows from power 96 or even power pig air checks from the 90s... ill be more then happy to trade
 
This type of thing is pretty risky. I have been apart of stations who pull April Fools Format Flip jokes and they never recover from them.
