Hate to break it to ya (and Beasley), but that's not at all true. Power 96 was once the most listened-to radio station in the entire state. And yes, that WAS on Kid Curry's watch. Listener's tastes haven't changed, station management and budgets have. The only remnant of those days still remaining is Laz, and as much of a Miami legend as he is, his show isn't enough to carry the rest of the station's talent.
Sad to see my once-favorite station become so lackluster. Sad to see radio in general become so lackluster.

Ah, the Kid Curry days. He was the master of the Lunchtime Dance Classic Disco mix. I used to work a parking garage in the summer time while listening to that shift. Those we're the days.
When was it the most listened to station in the state? I tought the BeautifulEasy Listening/Soft AC stations in Miami and Tampa were the most listened to. And what about Tampa's 93.3 FLZ in the 90s?
Power 96 is still a great station to me. The jocks still have that distinct Miami sound. They sound differnet b/c they're younger, and they've kept up with the lingo changes. Miami is a very trendy sort of town where every few years new words trickle rather quickly into the mainstream, especially with the Power 96 listeners.
Kid Curry was indeed great when he was there (also loved him when he was at Y-100 in the 80s), as was Bill Tanner, Bo The Party Animal, Cox On The Radio, Tony The Tiger, and anyone else I might be forgetting.

It was a short period, CHRles, but I do seem to recall in the late 90's when WPOW had held the title.
It IS still a great station... comparatively. It's still miles above what you'd hear across most of the country in terms of localism and staying with the trends of the market. Let me clarify my previous comment by saying that it's probably not really the TALENT who are at fault, it's the people behind the programming (as is usually the case in this industry). I'm not hearing enough about the music and the artists in the depth that I once did; I'm not hearing the talent bring the local relevance to the national hits like they used to (and still should), and I'm not hearing talent that are truly allowed to put on a show as they once did. That's not the talent's fault, that's up to the programmers who are holding them back. THAT is where Power 96 is lackluster today where once they used to shine. They could still be an above-all GREAT station as opposed to just great compared to the rest of the business, but right now, they're not there.
