It was a short period, CHRles, but I do seem to recall in the late 90's when WPOW had held the title.
It IS still a great station... comparatively. It's still miles above what you'd hear across most of the country in terms of localism and staying with the trends of the market. But the talent problems I mentioned have nothing to do with the language used or the age, it has everything to do with the programming style. Let me clarify my previous comment by saying that it's probably not really the TALENT who are at fault, it's the people behind the programming (as is usually the case in this industry). I'm not hearing enough about the music and the artists in the depth that I once did; I'm not hearing the talent bring the local relevance to the national hits like they used to (and still should), and I'm not hearing talent that are truly allowed to put on a show as they once did. That's not the talent's fault, that's up to the programmers who are holding them back. THAT is where Power 96 is lackluster today where once they used to shine. They could still be an above-all GREAT station as opposed to just great compared to the rest of the business, but right now, they're not there.
