Power 96

This station had the likes of Cox, Kramer, Tanner and some of the best ever. Listen to this station now and there is no comparison. Even morning drive with Bo and Mindy and Mark was a thousand times better than Laz. Wow, has the station tumbled over the years.

The decline of Power 96 has been much-discussed here over the years. The most disappointing aspect of it is the loss of uniqueness that the station once had, from the fact that day time programming included Rock hits, to the mix shows that seemed to happen at all hours of the day. I fondly remember the days of Kid Curry and when DJ Laz was on at night (before he went to NYC).

The played it all and had great talent in between songs...And they had power mixing at all different times...Who is the PD there now? And how could this person be so clueless?

Wasn't Dox Cox PD in the early 90s? Now, the station is just following corporate edicts. At least it still has local jocks. That isn't saying much, but still...it's better than the non-local garbage on Y-100.

The late Don Cox was never PD at Power 96 just air talent. Bill Tanner, Kid Curry and Tony the Tiger were the Program Directors that i'm aware of. I couldn't tell you who's running the ship now.

You forgot Frank Walsh.

... Used To Be

POWER-96 & Y-100 are not as good as they used to be, but then again WHAT radio station ever IS as good as it used to be ?

If a station is allegedly as good as it used to be then it probably hasn't changed much with the times.

Long live the way radio used to be.

As Babs and Neil once said "But used to be's don't count anymore, They just lay on the floor
'Til we sweep them away"
:-\

Welcome back to the grind Major! 8)

THANKS for the 'Welcome Back' Stuart. It's good to see a longtimer such as yourself still on here. I'm back after a nearly 5-year hiatus !

BTW your tagline 'Today's announcers don't know what real radio is' still makes me smile. ;D

Just had a note from Funky Frank a few weeks ago... there is a lot of talent in Miami. What is amazing is how much of it went through Y 100 or Power 96, stations that had their personality and stationality set by Bill Tanner.

You're absolutely correct that I forgot Frank and it wasn't on purpose. When you reach a certain age, you suffer more from CRS. Frank was between Kid and Tony. I'm sure Frank would excuse me for the oversite....at least I hope he would :-\

That would be Tom Calococci, formerly of KZZP/Phoenix and WERQ/Baltimore.
