Power 99 WAPW jingles and airchecks.

I know that this is a long-shot, but does anyone here have any airchecks of WAPW from 1988 to 1992? I really loved that station and finding anything from those years is very challenging.

Also, does anyone here have a copy of the JAM jingles that were used during those years? Again, I know it a long-shot...I just thought I would ask. I've talked with the late Keith Eubanks about 16 years ago about them and he had mentioned that he didn't know whatever happened to the station's jingle masters when the format was changed to alternative as 99X. My guess is that it wound up in a landfill. :'(

Anyway, thank you for listening.

The best,

Robyn

Domino has as TON of airchecks and he's at 105.9 Sunny FM in Orlando, FL. Rick Stacy is there, also.

I heard Domino 2 weekends ago, and he sounds absolutely great. When he voicetracked the 80's Channel (105.3), he sounded over the hill. Not the case at all.

Hey Robyn, I have a few airchecks that are from the era you're looking for. Msg me for and i'll email them or put them on FTP somewhere.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Here's some audio files that (sadly) have just a little bit of Power 99 that I though I'd share with everyone here.

First is from late January, 1989 that consist of stations along the I-75 corridor from Tennessee to Florida. This has a little bit of Boomer's midday show at 12:17 (just thought I'd warn you ahead of time, Boomer. FWIW-You sounded great).

The second is a Radio & Records Magazine Nighttime CHR composite from 1988 that features jocks from several markets. Power 99's Domino is the last one.

Thanks for sharing these, Robyn. To me, the best part of the R&R tape is Broadway Bill Lee on Hot 103 - before the frequency swap with 97.1, and, as the top hour ID says, "from the t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-top of the World Trade Center..."

I really enjoyed listening to the road trip tape, as well. Brought back lots of memories.

Thanks.

Broadway Bill Lee was/is an awesome jock.

That first aircheck made me curious about WDOD-FM. For years and years, after moving in from Cleveland TN, US101 has been extremely dominant. I'm guessing from that aircheck that WDOD was the big country station in 1989. And even though WDOD is now CHR, I know it was country several years ago. I'd love to know the history of how that all happened. Had WDOD remained country all those years, or was that its second time with country?

Actually, WDOD was beaten by WUSY in the ratings at that point (I'll have to go back and look it up in back issues of Billboard, but I believe they were the #1 station in the market at that point).

Although WDOD was Country first (they flipped from a brief stint as Top 40 "D96" in 1982), and had a very powerful signal, they didn't have the money to aggressively compete with US-101, so in the early 90s (around 1992), they put a stronger emphases on Classic Country than most other Country outlets at the time. Although ratings were adequate, they still could not make a dent with US-101's massive ratings. So, they blew up the station in 1997 for Triple A.

I know, we're way off-topic (and in the wrong market).
