Power back at 96.1fm (HD2)

I scanned the dial as i keep checking when the hd channels for Air 1 will change and found that Power 105.3 is now 96.1hd2 and that 80s90s Peach is on hd3.

I wonder how long Power 105.3 will be on the 105.3 FM?
The sound is too compressed on 96.1 HD2. Still sounds better on 105.3. This can mean only one of two things. They are trying to broaden their audience by adding the additional frequency. Or 96.1 HD2 is the transitional spot for Power so that something else will eventually end up on 105.3.

IIRC there is some national commercial clearance involved. So 105.3 might " take one" for the Atlanta cluster.

I have always wondered why iHeart never paired 105.3 and 105.7 together. With the exception of the far northeast and far eastern part of the market you would have close to the coverage of the big in town FM stations

I hope the current administration doesn't harm the Hispanic radio business. The painter I used last year was in this country legally but most of his crew was "questionale". Will this affect the national buys? Will the Administration's attempt to kill off DEI affect the BIN on 640? I know Target is having "issues" with DEI. There is no taxpayer money involved with BIN but sometimes the "images and perceptions" can cloud business decisions.

I'm pretty sure illegals aren't measured by PPM, unless you're talking about billing.

A loud minority of the Hispanic community is boycotting Walmart & other stores in the U.S., getting as desperate as to use videos from COVID to say their 'protest' is working. It depends on if the loud minority actually gains traction, likely not.

You are correct. But the "illegals" still buy stuff. There is a "multiplier" effect. If a person buys a beverage that transaction might not seem to be a lot, but multiply that transaction by a thousand or two you have the delivery person, the plant workers, they buy stuff and those merchants hire workers so on and so on.

It has been my experience, when a local merchant sales go down the first thing cut is advertising.

I have lived a town with decreasing populations. An empty store here, then next month another business shuts down, then a couple of months another until half of Main Street is empty. Not a good environment for advertising based businesses.

I’ve noticed this morning that on HD Radio - the spot where the call letters go actually shows the call letters “WWPW” and not “Power” on 105.3. Also 96.1 has replaced “Beat” with “iHeart.” They did the same thing right before the flip last year between Power and the Beat. This would indicate to me that a flip is imminent.

Interesting observation. On 105.3 or 96.1?

I'd be surprised if 96.1 flips.

105.3 shows WWPW on it now - not Power and 96.1 shows iHeart - not Beat. In my travels, I have noticed that iHeart likes to replace the area where the call letters normally go on HD Radios to show the station name instead. Whereas most station owners put the call letters here in this spot. My thought is 105.3 will flip. They did this about a week before the flip last year between the Beat and Power.

The 96.1 - 105.3 swap was done before this Atlanta Cluster "programmer" got here. It depends on how much "freedom" she has to actually fix things. I don't know who at iHeart corporate OKs flips.

Facebook page name changes can take a while - did it say 105.3 before? If so, they could have changed it expecting it to take longer than it actually did.

Otis posted a video of how to listen to Power and included 96.1 HD2 in an IG video. I wonder if changes could be coming to 105.3 and Power will "live on" the HD2 at 96.1 as technically "Power 96.1"?

105.3 is a signal for an Urban format. Very similar signal to 104.1 which is very competitive and does well as an Urban outlet. Nothing else will be competitive on 105.3.

The Facebook name has never been updated. Has always shown Power 96.1. The latest post shows how easy it is to pickup Power. Shows how to get it on 96.1 HD2. Either a flip is coming or they are really trying to keep Power around as long as they can. I like Power and hope is stays around somewhere on the dial. I just hate that it’s ratings have fallen so bad.

The on air liners now say 96.1 HD2 as well. It seems iHeart is keeping POWER for the time being. They should have done this before flipping.

Yes - however, I have noticed both stations still show WRDG and WWPW in the HD Radio call letter section - which they both did before the flip last year. I agree with you - I think it is an attempt to see if they can gain more audience this way. It is a great idea. I just hate the compressed sound on 96.1 HD2. I would rather listen to the attenuated signal on 105.3 to hear the better sound.

The branding on 96.1 HD-3 is “Atlanta’s Best Variety of 80s & 90s…Peach” and “Peach”. Rumors out of Texas are iHeart in 2025 plans quite a shakeup for their Atlanta, GA market radio frequencies. Also, you can listen to Peach 96.1 HD-3 online at the following audio link: http://n40a-e2.revma.ihrhls.com/zc9603?rj-ttl=5&rj-tok=AAABlOfKHiQAuxjGupYhr9ktQA

Considering that none of the iHeart decision-makers are in Texas and haven't been for over a decade now, I wouldn't put much credence in this. iHeart made their big changes last year and need time to let those settle.
