Power down at the tallest tower on Rattlesnake?

At about 9:05am WTXX, WEDH & WTIC-TV all off the air, WRCH is on though, maybe from a backup? WVIT is on the air.

I know there used to be a ham repeater up there, might be that. I just got home about 9pm and all seems normal across the DTV spectrum, I do know that before I left at 4pm, all stations were still off. Does anyone know what happened? Some kind of upgrade maybe?

What is the short stubby tower on Rattlesnake used for? It sits next to the WVIT-DT tower.

I always thought that was the repeater for Farmington police/fire communications. I know they have a repeater somewhere up on the mountain. Although I also once heard that was an old backup tower for WTXX.

That is the original WVIT tower from the olden days. Its been YEARS since I've been up there, but I believe it still has the original WVIT stick on it.

I go by the towers often on US Route 6, heading to and from the casino. Nothing I can see from the road which openly says who it belongs to.

The WVIT analog antenna was removed via helicopter. They had to shut down the Candelabra stations for RFR safety, as well as WRCH, which probably ran on their backup on the 910 towers down the road.

Isn't that where WRCH-FM used to have their main antenna? Going past the towers the other day, I noticed the current transmitter about half way up the WTIC tower. My Panasonic "walkman" has trouble going by the site, no matter what station I've got tuned in, even WTIC-FM and WCCC-FM, whose transmitters are closer than the ones on West Peak (Meriden) are.

That's exactly the thing I figured (well, except the antenna removal part), was the analog antenna still on the WVIT tower? I noticed WVIT-DT was also on the air the entire time this was going on.

KML-224: Yes, I believe that is the current WRCH antenna up there, although many years ago, I was touring WRCH/WRCQ with a teacher from NBHS and actually spoke with Mr. Ray (now of Buckley Broadcasting as well as THIS very forum) and he pointed up to the big tower and told us the antenna was at the bottom set of lights visible from that vantage point just over the tree line (I think they might have raised it since as this was about 1/4 the way up back then)
