Wow..saying tino "has skills"..must mean, your a rhythmic man through and through.....would you say Tino has skills period? Or just on a half ass rhythmic? What kind of skills does he posses that many others dont? He relates just as "well" as Hamm. Does he do compelling radio? Deffinetly not in my opinion. Neither of those jocks do imo. Relating to your audience is a whole lot more than "yo yo yo dawg, we gots dis on lock"....and I loved Tino's cheezy line the other night of: "i stole these benjamins from my boss, and givin' them to you"...riiight, like thats believable. If I were you, I would re-think the outlook of "your golden child". Rhthmic/urban jocks aren't the winners, the music is. Period. Proof is in the pudding. I have NEVER heard a compelling/stellar performance by a urban/rhythmic jock.....its thier "cool" factor and the station they work for that wins the people. I respect your opinions, but mine are a 360 turn. I have worked and lived in some major markets....and all urban/rhythmic jocks are the same...sure they relate, but there content is less than mediocre. Outside of a few rhythmic jocks (angie martinez, the hot boyz and a few others) most are liner jocks with slang....with no regard to compelling radio...i.e. topics, relatable content stories and listener interaction. My opinion is just different....WAY different i guess.
On another note...I can't stand Xavier in the morning on the beat....but he is doing something right. As cheesy as thier parodies/bits may be, they are EXTREMELY interactive and local...THATS what wins. Tino has yet to do ANY of that....although he is still very new and fresh in this market people will give it time. But in a month or so, if he isn't embracing the local feel and airing compelling topics/conversations to make people actually LOVE him, then he's going to have a problem. Especially since his myspace is FLOODED with lubbock talk and garb. Theres nothing wrong wth being proud of where you come from, but its time to show LOVE for where and who you are serving.
