POWER'S playlist still very limited...

Okay, I only question this because I'm trying to understand how this whole start-up of a new CHR usually works. Now, that Power has launched with new local jocks (starting today), commercial spots and more. I just don't understand why their playlist is STILL the same 100 songs (including recurrents).

NOTE: I'm know some of you may come back and say, "BAH! CHR is the same crap songs over and over and over..." and, "that's how CHR is!!" (I promise you, I get all that)    ;)

But, from looking at the playlist on the Power's website, and comparing it to other Clear Channel CHR's, Power runs at about 103 songs (total). But, looking at playlists on a few stations, that are (relatively) new like WHQC/Charlotte, WNWW/Jacksonville and WKXJ/Chattanooga, they all seem to be running about 250 to 350 songs (total).

It baffles me that Power isn't playing anything by B.o.B., Karmin, Jessie J, Cher Lloyd, Kelly Clarkson, Emenim, etc. Again, it's not about music tastes or even chart positions....every other Clear Channel CHR seems to be playing these. Why not Power?

So, my questions are, will Power ever get around to expanding their playlist....is it still too early in the launch for that....And, is such an ultra-tight playlist the norm for a station that's only a month old?

It will eventually begin to evolve and tweak. Trust me. Besides, when has there ever been a Top 40 station, even in Atlanta, that stayed exactly the same music-wise forever? Q100 started off with a very repetitive playlist. Even their earliest mixshows were as mainstream as the playlist.

Right now, Power's main goal is to play just enough to steal from Q100. Although they don't want to be identical to Q, they also don't want to do too much just yet. But I'm sure when WiLD flips, Power will begin to shift slightly more to the rhythmic pop sound by including a touch of top 40 hip hop hits.

Yeah...forgot that WiLD may flip and so Power's holding off on mainly the urban hits til that happens. BTW: I honestly hope that Power doesn't end up a full-on hip-hop station! Now that may actually be my own preference talking, I know but it would also kinda put us back at square one as far as having no real CHR here!

......PLEASE NOT AGAIN!!

It's ClearChannel. The most they might do is go rhythmic, or flip back and fourth between rhythmic chr and top 40 chr like they did over the past ten years in Phoenix with KZZP and Cali's KYLD and KIIS stations, but I mostly think they'll stick to mainstream top 40 with a touch of rhythmic. I don't think they want to mess with urban in Atlanta right now. If they truly wanted to even go full on rhythmic they would've just gone WiLD.

But I think ClearChannel is now here to fulfill Atlanta with a good full chr for the long run. I have even more faith in them than I did WiLD, and WiLD itself turned out to perform as well as I knew it could in the end! I believe Power is mainly a result of WiLD's chr success! Power is surely here to stay, but now I seriously doubt any more new chr's will emerge as a result, even if/when WiLD and Q100 20 disappear. Atlanta will just have to settle for two chr's and 27 urbans. ;)

Now THAT'S odd! I just now noticed this. But then again, I know other chr's that have started off just as weirdly. I did notice Power playing less songs (or different ones) from when they started, but I never noticed that ALL THAT was actually missing from the playlist. It's not like a ClearChannel chr to be like this.

If anyone remembers, 95-5 the Beat's playlist was very limited in the beginning but expanded up later on into the end of 1999 after the 10,000 songs in a row ended. I don't think anyone cared at the time because all of the songs that were played on the Beat were not being played on Star. I remember the rotation was about the same as Q100 20 is now.

Mya - Case of the Ex
Sonique - Feels so Good
K-Ci and JoJo - Tell Me It's Real
Joe - I Wanna Know
Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos
Christina Aguilera - Genie in a Bottle
Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life
Britney Spears - Crazy
TLC - Unpretty
98Degrees - I Do
Eiffel 65 - Blue
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
J Lo - Waiting for Tonight
Brian McKnight - Back at One
Mandy Moore - Candy
Marc Anthony - I Need to Know

Can anyone add to this list? I don't remember much more.

They have? Afternoons (Sonic) are being voice tracked from San Diego. I haven't been able to find where nights (Maddox) are coming from.

Maddox aka LunchBox is from Tampa,FL. He's on 93.3 FLZ and US 103.5 in Tampa as well as Jacksonville's 97.9 Radio Now. :D Local???

Maddox is moving to Atlanta and so is Sonic... so these will be LIVE and LOCAL talents in the building. They are currently voice tracking until they move. This happens everyday in todays radio. Ya know... the whole "he's voice tracked... this sucks that he's not local" isn't an argument anymore. This has been happening for about 10 yrs now and will continue to happen. Get over it. Evolve with the business or get out of it. Listen to it, or don't... you have a choice. Your average 18-34 female (who these stations target) doesen't care. They want entertainment and their favorite song. Bottom line.

Then why do you bother telling us Maddox and Sonic are moving to Atlanta if it doesn't matter? And what kinda name is Sonic anyway, what if he needs to broadcast live from The Varsity?

I said it so people on here would stop the stale, non-relavent argument of who is live and who is tracked. Or how bad or good it is. Since it DOESN'T MATTER TO THE CORE AUDIENCE. ::)
