PPM'S V103 back on top of Urban again

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb047

IMHO V didn't get better WALR had a bad month.

It looks like The Fish (really a CCM but they are listed as AC) with signal issues in the northwest part of the market has passed B98.5. Caller 10 had better get WSB FM back on track.

I have no way of figuring this out but just a guess, WPZE might have the most "listeners per watt" of any station in Atlanta. They are class A with only 3K.

But im sure Praise does not get the advertising dollars despite a large audience.

I wonder which demo has more spendable income: Praise or Magic 107.5. Would or does Radio One offer a "package" for Praise and Magic or Hot?

Praise averages around 12th in 25-54 and around 15th in billing. It does outbill stations like WGST, WYAY, WCNN, WNNX and WRDA and nearly ties WKHX. Not bad for a limited signal.

All clusters offer some kind of multi-station packages or discounts.

Praise bills about 25% less than 107.5. But that is due to the limited cume reach of Praise; WALR has about 50% higher cume on average. Agencies looking for reach will favor the higher cume option; they will also know that high TSL Praise requires fewer spots to get their desired frequency.

Doesn't Gospel have a lower power ratio than Urban AC? I haven't been offered a multi-station discount from Radio One although Majic and Hot have been the only ones of their stations in contention for my target recently.

I think the discount is minimal today if Praise and WALR are nearing billing parity. Still, the 25% difference on similar 25-54 performance would indicate a harder sell and thus more discounting to get it on buys. Some of the value perception may be based on the fact that gospel stations seem to have a large 55+ audience; that is what caused Radio One's gospel FM in Houston to flip out of the format.

I still think that the difference in cume (400 k to 650 k) and the limited coverage are contributing factors.

Honestly, the main thing holding WALR back against WVEE is it being an UAC compared to a full-service urban contemporary. The playlist compositions of the two stations allows V-103 to pull and diverse its listenership throughout the day. WALR will always flank WVEE programming-wise because a full-service urban can switch up its musical programming at a moment's notice to accommodate which allows a higher TSL.

Did V bring out their money kitty again? It's worked for them in the past. When I first moved to ATL in 1980 I listened to V probably 90% of the time, today V-103 gets about 10 minutes a month from me. GO Kiss 104 and Majik!
