Praize 102.9

You lost me on that one. Is selling advertising on a pirate station MORE ILLEGAL that running a pirate station without advertising?

Let's assume for a moment that they were a licensed non-commercial station. Selling "advertising" is not permitted. Is a non-commercial station prohibited from having a web site that has advertising ON THE WEBSITE?

Are the prohibited from publishing a sports schedule poster with paid advertising?


Are they prohibited from publishing a monthly magazine or weekly 'trader' paper that carries advertising?
 
One of my only experiences with radio was with a fellow broadcast enthusiast who had a small, tiny part 15 station. Even though he kept the signal to legal requirements (below 25mw), one of the common things we heard from other part 15'ers was don't "offer advertising" (like anyone would) because it could make the bigger stations mad and report you anyway because they think you could take potential money from them.
 
Are all of you all saying that an internet radio station can't sell advertising??? Because I see a lot who are selling advertising on their internet station.

I also found another radio station in Spartnaburg, SC who seems to be pirated, they call themselves Gospel Impact Radio which is www.gospelimpactradio.com

They are advertising on their website that they can be heard on 107.7 FM in Spartanburg, SC. Has anyone heard about this one and can anyone research it?? I don't see call letters but they are saying 107.7 FM and from their website they are also pushing advertising.
 
Well I guess somebody complained hard enough already to get this station off the airwaves... hmm.
Here's the comment posted on this station's website from owner Johnathan Bixby:

"Praize the Lord everybody!! God is doing some major things in my life and the station.
Do you know how I know?? Because, the enemy has been attacking our station and myself sooo much lately,
it just don't make sense. If the enemy is working that diligently to attack directly, and through others,
then he must be really scared. Please pray for us. We are not giving up."

So, urbanradio and ShawtyBlack, are you saying that it's OK to break the law? Is it really "Christian" of these people to be doing that anyway?

They were breaking the law...they were reported, and hopefully have been caught.

Ha! Tell me about it. That's crazy.

These people are actually showing their stupidity by giving out their ADDRESS. That is the last thing you want to give if you're a pirate.
Pirates are one thing the FCC will not let slide.

Are they still off the air?

Who hasn't broken the law sometime in there life. People, get a life! What Im saying is how many people really knew this station was on the air? According to what the people from the Upsate on here were saying, the coverage was minimal. How was this station possibly affecting any other station in town? The scream for Urban radio for African Americans in the Upsate is at an all time high. So, that leads me to think one of you boring radio nerds reported the station. There are plenty of stronger pirates around the United States so report them too. Of course if it was Pop, Rock, Oldies or Country it would still be on air. Good Day!
 
Actually, it wouldn't, Shawty.

The FCC stays out of programming. They don't care if you're programming Whale Farts to one-legged Asian-Americans. If you are on the air illegally and you publicize that fact, you are asking for a visit from Uncle Charlie.

I would hardly say that the Black population is underserved, by any stretch of the imagination. For example, we have 6 stations targeting that audience in Columbia, alone. Charleston isn't that much different.

If there is a need for a Black Gospel station, then some commercial operator will eventually take advantage of that opportunity. There is money to be made in Urban radio. But you have to have a license to do it.
 
Ah, someone posted this comment on the station's website about an our ago as of this post:

"You are aware your station is ILLEGAL and breaking the law, aren't you?
Get ready to be slapped with a big fine, buddy. Big brother is coming." ::)
 
Kyle&Melissa...interesting. That is a point made by that individual, though; they are going to face a fine.

Lots of interesting points here.

The Urban market in Greenville is underserved. I totally agree with SBATL. How many posts have I stated that the upstate could support a second Urban station? No way could Greenville support as many black stations as Cola. or Chas., IMO, but I think it can support 2 Urban stations, especially since 107.3 has gotten 12 shares at times.

I love classic hits. As much as I love the format, if a pirate broadcasted it, I wouldn't support the idea, I'd say the exact same thing I am saying about Praize. If this had never been mentioned here, it still would have been discovered by the FCC eventually.

Amen. 107.3 needs the legs knocked out up under it like what is happening in Charleston. Z93 is showing Box attention. If 93.3 flips, that would leave GSP with no current rock music. I say flip 92.5. On to the post at subject, why didnt the gospel station on 103.3 stick? I was surprised it didn't last long at all.
