Pranksters and Jodi Applegate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1gmnLX6DoE

Posting here, for those of us who remember Jodi from Fox 25 here in Boston. She's doing a serious news segment (Fox 5 NYC) on bicycle theft and one of the guys starts to goof off...yeah, it was kinda amusing for a sec, but some things you don't
joke about on a serious news piece and she had the right to get mad. (Remember when another Fox25 newser
who went to NYC, Arthur Chi'en, got fired after some O&A fans messed with him and got him to say the F
word on air? Or maybe he was on Ch 4 in Bos. instead, but am pretty sure he was on 25. Anyway...)

Jodi was fun to watch on Ch 25 and I enjoyed her news-promo call-ins to Howie.

She didn't handle it well. Yes perhaps it was a bad joke...... but she just made things worse by freaking out. There is something to be said for being able to remain cool calm and collected. I would have calmly called them goofballs and mentioned how we are trying to be serious. That would have been it. Jodi started yelling like an upset parent. That just made things 10 times worse.

Seems to me Applegate was just being a drama queen. She didn't handle that situation very well at all. Also, how many "children" are really watching Fox 5's morning show? Are there any children even awake at that hour? If they were, and if they were watching TV, I highly doubt they are watching the news.

I believe Arthur Chien was at Channel 2 in Noo Yawk, when dropped the F-Bomb on the air.

I watched the clip. Even thought the prank may not have been appropriate, neither was her response on the air. A true professional would have kept their cool. But the way Applegate handled it, you'd have thought she just graduated broadcasting school (assuming she went to broadast school, and didn't just, you know, get the job on good looks or something related).

When something like this happens, you grin, go along with it, and then wait for the camera goes off. There is nothing sexy or smooth about a temper tantrum. This woman has an ego problem, and obviously, no sense of humor.

The temper tantrum probably had more to do with her actually believing the prank for a moment and being scared sh*tless. Some people just can't take a joke! LOL

I have to say that I've never seen anyone pull a stunt on local news like that before. I live in CT and I haven't seen one unprofessional reporter or uncivilized guest on the news. This was a first. I also never saw a news reporter get so upset on live TV like that. It was unneccessary to keep on going after they aplogized. Why did she even let these idiots do this stunt anyway?

Yup, I knew Arthur Chi'en was on Ch 2 in NYC when the O&A prank happened, but I wasn't sure if his
Boston employer was Ch 25 or Ch 4. Maybe both!

Howie C. hinted yesterday that VB got hired because of Jodi; Jodi would do those news promos for WRKO
and she liked VB, his sense of humor, etc., and suggested to Ch 25 brass that he might work out well
for them.

I can't believe some people think she over reacted. If someone had done something silly, like hold up a dumb sign or something and she acted that way...then it would be considered freaking out. But since the joke was acting like he was cut in the throat live on air...She had every right to chastize them like that on air. You pull a joke like that in front of your fellow immature frat friends, not on live TV.

She did freak out. She acted like an overgrown child throwing a hissy fit. She needs to take some kind of medication to control her mood swings.

She chastized a group of people because they were on LIVE TV and were supposed to be giving information about the bike lock. Again, THIS IS LIVE TV...CAN'T BE EDITED OUT for them to pull the throat slicing stunt or whatever they pretended to slice was NOT APPROPRIATE FOR LIVE TV

And you're right, she did freak out, but she had every right to.

"Can't be edited out?" Why are folks making excuses for this idiocy? Yes, it's live TV. But when you're in a live situation and all falls apart, you take charge: You throw to break and give yourself and your crew a minute or two to regroup. You get the mess off the air. So where was the producer while all this was going on? Not calling the shots, obviously. Whoever that producer was should have cut back to the anchor desk and told the anchor to throw to break. Since Applegate was out of control, the producer should have just cut away from her. I had never seen Applegate until I saw this clip. Her hissy fit was absurd -- obviously, she wasn't collected enough to direct what was happening in the field or even tell the producer over the air that she was throwing back to the studio -- but the bottom line is that it's her producer who's responsible for putting that out over the airwaves. Anyone know what the fallout from this episode was?
