Is the style of the Pratt show we're hearing now typical of his shows back in the day? I didn't arrive in the market until 2003, never heard his rock show....

Short answer: No, what I have heard thus far on X103.9 does not remind me of his old show on KUPD. I remember hearing the Morning Mayor on 10/9/87/6:54:32:01 and his song "Drop It On Qadafi" (why, oh why, hasn't he re-played that song, if only for old time's sake? isn't it his own intellectual property?) And because his fairer-gender cohort is quite younger than him, it actually sounds a little icky (dare I say it) when he's asking her about her sex life. If she were more of his peer, it would have a Howart Stern/Robin Quivers-type vibe to it, but when he's old enough to be her dad, it just sounds wrong. Not shocking. Just wrong. I feel so embarrassed for MC when he's there.
Are you exaggerating? I mean, asking about dating, and what guys might do that you like on a date isn't asking about "sex life." Sorry, just haven't heard a "sex life" question.
But keep in mind, age is irrelevant in radio. You can have the right content, right humor, at any age. Look at Rick Dees, look at his Facebook page and note the amount of fans in their teens and twenties who've posted on the wall. All Dave needs to do is play the right format, and the show would grow on many more people than the people who are leaving it. Your "old listeners" can only do so much.

I think if you asked the average listener to guess the age of their favorite or most listened to on-air personality, they'll be off by a longshot. The average listener doesn't even know what personalities LOOK like, and it's never as imagined when they do. So that makes it even more difficult to put an age with a voice... 99% of X103.9's complaints posted on their Facebook wall are related to the music Pratt plays.
Age only exists in radio when it comes time to discriminate against well-qualified applicants in the hiring process. (but that's another story that I won't have to deal with in a long while

I gave it a shot, but the show is just bad. The topics I have heard them discussing were pretty stale, Pratt is like listening to a several-hours-long Shane Co. commercial (at least Shane makes a joke of his nasal voice and monotone delivery, not a career), and the songs they drop in just don't fit the station format (Surrender by Cheap Trick?).

I really don't like how he turns what's essentially morning news items into the "true/false" game. Like that's how I found out about the cops raiding the 'godess temple' - before I heard it on KTAR a few minutes later. Don't make legit news stories pop quiz answers. Ask something MUSIC-RELATED since it is, in fact, on a MUSIC radio station.
And I really feel old enough as it is without having to hear "the doctor" on the show. Considering how 103.9 target audience probably doesn't eat the healthiest diet (though I could be wrong), is it really good radio to have a doctor be part of Pratt Live?
The more I hear of the show, the more I just have to scratch my head and wonder what they're thinking. Compared to Ned & Connie & Calvisi on KTAR and TMI on KWSS-LP - heck, even compared to the nearly bald one - it sounds like the audio equivalent of a good SNL skit turned into an unncessary feature-length movie.
The station now has a dead zone when this moron sits behind the mic....
