Pre 1977 CCM radio

Before 1977 there were a few full-time contemporary CHRISTIAN music stations. The music was mostly available on programs that stations would carry to help fulfill their FCC-mandated community service. In the mid '70s in Carbondale, Illinois, there was a program on Sunday evening on WCIL called Jesus Solid Rock, hosted by a local pastor named Jerry Bryant. Jerry was also a radio-TV grad from SIU there in C'dale and did a fantastic and professional job. People like Jerry were laying the groundwork for CCM stations to follow in order to be relevant and effective.

I had relatives who lived in the Peoria area and would occasionally go to the Agape Festival at Greenville and can remember hearing that show well into the 80's on trips through the Marion-Carbondale area.
