Preamp question

Question regarding a preamp, used in conjunction with the DB2 sister Eagle Aspen (same antenna, just lower cost) - Can a preamp be used indoors? I wouldn't see any reason it couldn't, but just thought I would ask.

Also, I'm wanting to "if possible" use the antenna for two rooms. What would I need to have this antenna in the living room but yet work in the bedroom? A/B switch?? Any help on these questions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yep, preamps can be used indoors or out. The key is to install the amp module as close to the antenna as possible.

Use a 2-way splitter to send the signal to another room. Just be careful where you install it. If it is installed between the power supply and amp, you have to have a DC block between the splitter output and the second tv, otherwise you'll put the power supply voltage into the RF input of the 2nd tv, which is not good. Best to install the splitter on the tv side of the power supply.

Thanks for the information.

Another question...

the Channel Master 7777 says "Mount the power supply to the wall or any flat surface."

Can't I just lay this thing on the floor and let it be or does it need to be mounted somewhere?

Thanks

There is no reason why the power supply has to be mounted to anything. Just lay it on the floor.

BTW, I ordered a 7777 from MCM, and am supposed to get it today. It is reported to be one of the best pre-amps.

Yep, I ordered mine (backordered forever) from Summit Source. Back in July before I found anything suitable for my parents 60's made house I had ordered this. Their house must be made of gold or something lol, it's made of brick as we kept getting a signal that would go up and down and then to zero = pixelization.

The Eagle Aspen DB2, Channel Master and some coaxial cable was meant for them. But... in the meantime for the DTV conversion I found the Winegard SS-3000 worked to their satisfaction so I decided to keep the order and I'll go with it. I was using a 'non' amplified RCA antenna at the time, I forget the model number but it has like 8 settings. It was outstanding for myself getting signals of 50-60% which here in my part of town was pixelization free.

Well, I've heard all the great reviews about the DB2 so I thought at $13.95 (yes, from Summit Source) I might as well use it myself. It's meant for channels 14-69 as stated on the box but even Ch. 2 comes in (78 no preamp/ 86 preamp) and I've never been able to get 8 and 49 (5.1 digital) here in Houston at my location. I was getting 80-90% on my channels last night w/o preamp, and this morning with the preamp I've receiving 90-100% although still not able to pull in the two stations listed above.

I'm beginning to think their's not much I can do outside of an outside mount (which I'm not gonna do) to be able to receive these stations until they upgrade for Feb. 2009. Would you consider using a preamp in my situation, overkill or not? I mean, I'm looking for the best possible indoor signal and now I'm pretty much at 100% on all stations up from 85% last night and 50-60% using the RCA I talked about prior.

Greg, I appreciate your help!

Note: A few months ago I was at a friends house who has the DB2, when I was checking the antenna out he was able to receive what I believe to be Victoria stations 25.1 thru 25.4 using this indoors w/o a preamp. Another reason I decided to go with this antenna.
