While it is true that CC spent a lot of money when it brought Tony & Kris over, that has been, what 7 years ago? I don't think KUSS has any live and local DJs anymore. And they certainly have not spent anything on promotion. As far as KIOZ, they do have a live 5-person live morning show, but I never see any promo on them or on the station as a whole. The CC group simply has no money. That's why it seems so logical for them to blow up one of these stations and put on 1360's sports format. But, alas, that is not to be...at least "NOT AT THS TIME."
The whole Tony & Kris deal was part of a giant pissing contest involving Mike Glickenhaus and Jefferson Pilot. As I recall, first JP pissed off Glick because JP blew up that 80s oldies station and created alternative FM949 which got into 91X's shorts. So he got back by paying way too much to steal Tony & Kris from KSON (which turned out to be a bad long-term business decision based on ego...but that's another story). Then J-P got back at Glick/CC by buying 92.1 from Art Astor to give KSON the North County coverage it didn't have before. The tit-for-tat ended when Glick got bounced. On the other hand, you could argue it probably would have ended anyway since CC has no more money to hire away an expensive morning show let alone buy any billboards.
What I don't understand is why is the Clear Channel promotion presence so wek. I understand that they have no cash, but it seems they could be working out some serious trade with print, TV and other media like shuttle buses etc. It's
