I know the calender still shows a few weeks left to 2007.This is the time of year we do see lay-offs and firings around here too.
So, does anyone want to make any predictions for the upcoming winter book.
I have a few.....

Imus to WPRO-shortening everyones shift down to 3 hr's

WHJJ- Continues to fade into radio waste land.Nothing at all to even talk about.

WALE- On the air just long enough to keep license good or until the gets turned off again.

Now the FM-

WSNE-Will continue to bore us to death

WHJY- I'm surprised no cuts were made to P and A or Charles.The syndicated night show must be keeping them afloat.

WCTK- Raise in numbers with listeners looking for some alternative to hearing Hotel California every 1 hr or the garbage the music industry is feeding us.

WSKO-Will be sold

WWBB- Continue it's slow incline to 1989 music wise.Also adding "Mike Harvey full-time when he's ready to roll out his 6 day aweek syndicated show 7-12.

WWLI- Same O, Same-O

WWKX-Continue it's struggle with Boston's WJMN.

Anyone want add anything...
 
I disagree with your thoughts on HJJ. I think in the new year they will continue to strengthen. They already have Limbaugh and I now find myself tuning in to the station for the first time in years. They will strengthen even more if they sign Imus. I think WPRO could possibly make some interesting changes as well. But I predict that every other station in Providence will remain exactly the same.
 
Okay, I'll play...

FM:

92ProFM: Jessica sounds great... Davey will learn more and more about voice tracking and won't show up for his drive time shift for days on end... no one will notice... Austin will continue to be overworked and underpaid running the cluster's websites and tracking nights.

93.3CoastFM: Will continue to get more of an edge - Kristin Lassard's on middays there now, so she'll bring it... Delilah has got to go... just my opinion... won't happen, but I get to wish, right?

94HJY: Believe it or not, these guys are making serious bank. They'd be nuts to mess with it.

955WBRU: More monotone, semi-depressed, trust-fund babies as the new semester kicks over at Brown...

Cat Country 98.1: They'll just keep pushing along, staying in the top 5...

99.7 The ScoreFM: Gonzo... see Hot106

Latina 100.3: Safe until the Arbitron PPM shows up and completely takes the wind out of their diary numbers

B101: Will continue to make money... However, Ken will continue to obsess over the station and count how many times Madonna is played and complain how nothing is the same since his time dressing up as Buzzy the Bee.

RIPR 102.7: Will be hitting people up for money with their semi monthly pledge drive... Continue serving the affluent enclaves of Newport and Castle Hill.

WEEI-FM: These guys have got the best deal going: monster signal.. no staff.. no overhead.. no worries..

LiteRock105: Joannie comes back... Partners with Davey Jones... Heather moves to middays... Tanya moves to the local Dunkin Donuts... Charlie stays until he decides he wants to leave... Art... well, Art, they'll just tear the place down around him in 20 years...

Hot106: New PD... Signal sucks in the south... Sports station just sucks... signal is good in the south... HotFM (99.7/106.3FM)

AM:

Radio Disney 550AM: does anyone actually know any kids that listen to this? Inquiring minds want to know...

630 WPRO: Buddy's numbers will be fine this book... next book, lower... Depetro is entirely out of his element in morning drive... Best thing to do here is put Ron back in mornings... Depetro 9-12... Buddy 12-3... and Dan 3-6... leaving Matt with his hour at 6...

790 The Score: Do they run anything besides Brown games anymore?

920 WHJJ: Rush obviously stays... Imus returns... 6-9am... they either move Helen 9-12 and blow out Glenn Beck... or they keep Beck and blow Hannity out.. putting Helen up against Yorke... maybe keep Hannity for the nights...

990 WALE: I've never heard a dark station get so much buzz...

These'll just sit there until somebody figures out what the hell to do with them...
 
Nothing changes with the FM's. Mayyyybe the Hot 1063/997...but, eh, that makes too much sense.

Imus to WSKO-AM or WPRO (with the afformentioned 3 hour slip for the other hosts). Can't see Citadel giving the competition its new morning show (although there's something to be said for generating revenue form your competitor's morning drive situation.)


Side note: Anyone hear Laffey on with Cianci this afternoon? This is the kind of radio Buddy should be doing- by far his show I've heard since he's been back...the whole "you were in diapers when I was firing the trash collectors" comeback to Laffey's crossing guards claim was a great zing, and the whole interview was fantastic.

Great! They should take this tape and replay it every day for the remainder of Buddy's contract.

Oh, that'll be interesting. Are we planning on having Buddy voice track his shift at 6AM, so he can be done and out before John comes in at 9 and they have to hire security to prevent fights on the Trail?
 
Imus to mornings on The Score. O&A are over.
By 12/31/08 they should hire someone for nites at PRO-FM but he'll leave by 12/31/09 and the cycle will start again. Tony Bristol will just get fed up and do it himself.
No changes at Lite. I don't see Joan considering radio again. She got burned at a job she held for years and I'm willing to bet it had an effect on her. She'll appear on the morning show at times.
No edge at Coast but I predict Lemire is paired with a female cohost eventually and Brian leaves.
Hot will fizzle in 2010 with the PPMs. In the meantime they'll think the answer is teaching white people to sound street. Does this midday chick know she drifts in and out of the put-on accent?
DePetro leaves WPRO and just joins The Ocean State Follies full time.
Skynet and Kenwood replace Quinn and Cantara. They both come on here and bash their own show.
We get through a full year without anyone in radio being arrested in his car with his pants down.
 
FM:

92ProFM: great station.. but yes, they need a night show.. where is J-buff when you need him..silly college, DJ's dont need it! lol.. or hey, how about hireing someone!!!...cant they steal someone from Fun 107 or the ROSE?

93.3CoastFM: I enjoy coast, I like Brian always have been a fan of him since HJY and what not..think he made a great fit in. but i do think they should get their own night show also...but like what was said before.. i dont think it will happen either.

94HJY: time for paul and al to head over to ROR like their buddy..or even.. hey B101 lol since their in the "new"

Cat Country 98.1: everyone seems to love this station somewhere.. wouldnt suprise me if it gets even better



Latina 100.3: as long as their DJ's stay outta trouble they will be just fine.

B101: time for a new morning show like i said before.. bring Paul and Al over and make way for some new stuff... granted they dont play their oldies that often.. i think it's pretty good... keep it special and go from their.


Hot106: i dont give it a listen to that often so not to much to put here, but i am wondering how their midday show is goin? she came over from fun 107 didnt she? i dont remember.

Fun107: they need to do sumthin w/ middays, i like scott r. and im confused as to why they have their production guy vt'd for 2 hours before he comes on? and i guess ron is goin to stay put in the night slot. no moven any of the weekenders up i guess.

I would think that since it is students on these stations at the front of the FM dial and an occaisionall Ooooops! The FCC is nt going to barge in and start throwing fines out to these schools who have a group of new kids every few months. They are learning.Have you heard some of the stuff these college stations play at 2 am on a Saturday night. (F-this and that) no censoring of songs.Nothing.

Now if a WHJY or WPRO went hours on end without an ID then I could see the station being payed a visit.

I worked there in 98,99 or 2000 during the summer when Vic Micheals was teaching up there.
They used to hire seasonal airstaffs when the kiddies were on breaks.At the time they were playing 70's and 80's.Sort of what the Bee is today.Very proffesional with music logs and spot logs.They were paid possitions and I enjoyed doing it.When they let us go they went back to alternative rock and stayed with it as far as I know.
 
I'm no expert on FCC Regulations. But I know there are engineers who read/post here. That can contribute to this
discussion College vs. Broadcast stations.

To me if you have a license to broadcast on a frequency. You have to identify ( legal ID) your station. And
check your transmitter readings. And operate your station accordingly. Not dropping F-bombs. Or saying
other swear words on a regular basis. I'm not talking music. But in conversation. I doubt the FCC or College
adminstration would tolerate certain rules being broken constantly. Even though its been written here
that the FCC has a slow respond time for stuff like this. And what about EAS for college stations???
 
FCC 73.1201:

Broadcast stations, anything transmitting at a power that you require a license to operate.

Sec. 73.1201 Station identification.

(a) When regularly required. Broadcast station identification announcements
shall be made:

(1) At the beginning and ending of each time of operation, and

(2) Hourly, as close to the hour as feasible, at a natural break in program
offerings. Television and Class A television broadcast stations may make
these announcements visually or aurally.

(b) Content. (1) Official station identification shall consist of the
station's call letters immediately followed by the community or communities
specified in its license as the station's location; Provided, That the name
of the licensee, the station's frequency, the station's channel number, as
stated on the station's license, and/or the station's network affiliation
may be inserted between the call letters and station location. DTV stations
choosing to include the station's channel number in the station
identification must use the station's major channel number and may
distinguish multicast program streams. For example, a station with major
channel number 26 may use 26.1 to identify an HDTV program service and 26.2
to identify an SDTV program service. No other insertion between the
station's call letters and the community or communities specified in its
license is permissible.

(2) A station may include in its official station identification the name of
any additional community or communities, but the community to which the
station is licensed must be named first.

(c) Channel—(1) General. Except as otherwise provided in this paragraph, in
making the identification announcement the call letters shall be given only
on the channel, or channels in the case of a broadcaster that is
multicasting more than a single channel, identified thereby.

After doing mornings at WPRO for a number of months, DePetro starts to actually believe he's Salty Brine. Management isn't concerned until he starts showing up for work with a collie.
