Predictions and Resolutions for 2006:

Predictions and Resolutions for 2006:

Lite 98’s Bill Bevins will continue into their thirteenth year
as Richmond’s #1 Morning Show as well as the station
leading in the ratings.
Followed by K95’s Catfish... then Power 92FM.

Liberty98.9 will gain...knocking Mix 103-7's #’s only to be challenged
by the Cox station... When they gradually mix over to a blend of
genres but with personality... giving Liberty a run for her money.

Q94 will continue [bobbing for apples] searching for a good PD
and air personalities [socks and underwear].

Chris Bopst will find syndication rewards... [via Cox stations]. Chris'
continued audience growth leads Cox to offer syndication deal and a five
hour Saturday show on Mix 103-7. They will turn, sounding like VGO of old...
They finally rebound before year’s end... tied with K95.
Beating out Liberty98.9...!

The Planet... what Planet? Attention will stay
on ClassicROCK 96.9....The Working Class Hero...Dick Hungate.
That debacle was like B103 letting Bevins go in the early 90’s...
[for those who don’t already know...they let him go, Bill went to
Lite 98...the rest as they say....is history... What do suits know anyway?]

Stupidity is a reality...when there’s no place for commonsense!
How do you like that one... I made that up ...lolol...but, oh so true!

My resolution... to get my syndication butt and other business projects in gear
and going. 2006 is the year to finally get things moving...[I’ve procrastinated
enough]. When I do, you guys, and VARTV will be the first to know...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my radio friends
and those I've made via Radio-Info.com. A toast and sip of champagne for brighter tomorrows and all of the tomorrows that come, be truly rewarding for you!!!

Cheers,

Good luck. I live in Tampa and all the major FM's are owned by CC, CBS, and Cox. Of all three companies, Cox is the least innovative by a mile or so.
Based on what I've seen here, I would not expect B103 to react in any way at all or change for any reason. Maybe Bopst and Guy could try 96.9? Cox programs based on national models per format that are totally cookie cutter. Kinda like the Yankees hair-cuts. As much as CC is maligned, their stations show much more local flavor than Cox. Just check out the websites for B103, Magic 94.9 and B 98.5 in Atlanta------exactly the same. Even the liners are the same. "voted number one at work" and their formats can be 10 years old and still called "new"

Predictions 2006:

I have to agree with you on the morning show outlook. Going to add something to that effect though. Y101 ends up bringing in syndicated shock jocks Lex and Terry from Florida out here to compete with the equally shocking Elliot on 102.1 the X. Bill Bevins, Russ Parr, Catfish, Tom Joyner and Richmond's Morning News will remain in the top 5.

Slight issue that was brought up about B103, Cox is not looking to make money off that station or Y101, they have their moneymaker in K95 and JB&B on the Planet. I do however do see a shift to a AAA like format on B103 which will give Liberty a run for their money. Would Bopst be a good fit for a 5 hour show on Saturday nights, hell yes!

The profit from 96.5 goes downhill as they will by mid year be VTing Mid-days, Prime Time and overnights. WWUZ 96.9 gets a APPROVAL to move into a trasmitter to get more of a Richmond Audience. It will be known as 96.9 Fredricksburg, 107.7 Richmond-Petersburg, The Rock. It knocks off The Planet as a top 10 powerhouse.

At the end of next year, the ratings will have the following rankings for top 13:

1. WTVR
2. WKHK
3. WCDX
4. WRVA
5. WBTJ
6. WRVQ
7. WRXL
8. WMXB
9. WWLB
10 WWUZ
11 WARV-WBBT
12 WJZV
13 WKLR

Y101 starts to stunt by years end as L&T go to XM for PM drive effective 1-2007, thus talk on here shifts for a question of sorts. Does it fill in a needed jazz gap or go otherwise..

As for all of you, I wish you all the best in this new year. Here is a toast to all of you and see you all in 2006.

Cheers and Best Wishes

In 2006, much like 2005, I doubt anyone would offer me any sort of show on a large FM/AM bandwidth. Not that I would be adverse to it, but no one is going to allow me the freedom to do my show as I see fit. For a radio show that harks back to the good old days of personality driven music programming, the only place for me or a show like mine is on the fringes of the commercial radio dials. I wish I was wrong, but as many people have taken a fiendish troubling delight to point out here, given current radio conditions, any hope of me taking my radio to the mainstream is nothing more than a pipe dream. Am I wrong?
______________

Chris, that was the same scenario behind "Johnny G from Tennessee" staying with WXGI and not going over to WRVA for their overnight trucking show. Which lead WRVA to hiring Big John Trimble. Johnny Gallagher had total control of his show while on 950 kHz. Johnny G was murdered in the early 80's by the Briley Brothers. Ironically, when CC took over RVA Big John was released.[ok,fired...'m sick of being PC!] BIG John went over to the shift once chaired by Johnny G @ WXGI.

As stipulated... Your growing audience numbers and their declining numbers influenced their decision to pursue a deal with you and changing their format. To match the growing audience numbers. You no doubt would retain creative control.

This is purely speculative... on my part! Edgar Cayce I am not!

But, reading the positive things about your show. Leads me to think that.

What Oldiesgal said is true...more massive really! The entire industry is so hooked into that cookiecutter....safe mode... even these bob,jack,sam.....play whatever stations are just regurgitated top 40 formats. There are no real personalities in/on radio anymore...So is the industry dying or dead... By them taking out the personality of radio... YES, and fibrillation can not revive her heartbeat... Even Stern went over to paid per ear!

I wish you the best of luck...
______________

I don't know about the rest , but B is not going AAA. In Florida, Cox is abandoning that format. I do not see B changing again unless it is sold.

Bopst...hook up with some folks in RIC radio (I'm sure you know a few) and purchase WLES or 91.1 in Henrico. WLES should be cheap because it's still a construction permit. I would guess you could get the station for under $500,000. I also think you could get some time on other radio stations (90.1, 91.1...heaven forbid, 88.9)

Man, I wish much luck to you. I have at times thought you lacked sanity, but hell, that's the stuff genius is made of. You are actually trying to make Richmond radio interesting, which is commendable. If you ever need production work done, I'd do it pro bono. Hit me up with an email at [email protected] if I can ever help out.

much luck...

Cox recently decided it was more important for corporate egos to be stroked than for a successful morning team to expand syndication. Lex and Terry are already on satellite and have been signed by Clear Channel. Cox responded by dumping them prematurely off WFYV, the Tampa station, and their stations in Oklahoma.
