Predictions for 2009

Here is how I think Bay Area radio will be in 2009.

1. MAJOR shake-up at KYLD
2. KKSF will flip to either Classic Hits or Active Rock
3. Live 105 will dominate mornings with The Woody Show
4. The Wolf will add the syndicated show "After MidNite with Blair Garner"
5. KBAY will knock KGO out of the number one spot in the San Jose Radio Ratings.
6. KABL will comeback as a CHR Station
7. KLOK will be sold and will flip to Adult Standards

Anyone else?
 
1. AM radio becomes fashionable again, and people desert FM in droves. The dominos start to fall...

2. Sports talk is on the way out, anyway.. KNBR becomes KFOG-AM. KTCT becomes "The Bone AM."

3. KFRC 1550 flips to Top 40 and goes to the top of the ratings for the first time in 30 years.

4. The Catholic Church makes a fortune selling 1260 to Clear Channel, which flips to Top 40 with the KYA call letters. With the profits, the Catholic Church buys one of the now very devalued FM frequencies, and brands the station "MOViN to God 99.7." They have $20 million left over and buy a second FM frequency which plays old Father Miles Riley tapes 24/7.

5. Entercom stock tanks because they have no AM frequencies, and 1260 is no longer available, but they pay a fortune for 610 AM. New slogan - "Lite Rock, Less Talk on the Big 610/KOIT.". The owners of KEAR make a huge profit for the second time, and move back to 106.9, which has been virtually abandoned by KCBS.

6. With all that competition on AM, KGO ratings tank, and Citadel switches to a younger demo shock-talk format. Ronn Owens is fired, and JV and Elvis take over the time-slot. The entire news department is laid-off, except for Ed Baxter who discovers he's a great shock jock, and takes over afternoon drive. Ray Taliaferro changes his show very little...just talks about sex more. Gil Gross, worried about his job - gets plastic surgery and starts wearing a toupee. It works, and billboards go up all over town, proclaiming: "Really GROSS Talk - afternoons on K-Go, 810 AM - More Stimulating Talk Radio."
 
Dan Mason will be fired by Les Moonves before the end of July.
The DOW will peak for the year at 15,500 in mid October.
Five of the best radio voices from the last 40 years will return from beyond the grave via an audio link to take over at 860 AM KTRB and will be an instant hit!
KGO-FM comes back to 103.7 after Citadel is bought out by Clear Channel after being bought out by General Electric after being bought out by Microsoft! Bottom line: There will be a lot of radio station fire sales this year.
HD-radio comes to TV sub channels in the bay area. Watch this one folks!
I come to like the music being played on KBLX 102.9 The Quiet Storm, The Bay Area's New Oldies Channel.
The KSEA Call Letters come to the bay area in San Jose on a now very popular FM station.
