Predictions for Boston Radio in 2017?

WROR to continue to rule the ratings roost and infuriate folks who want edgier, more risk-taking radio with its ultra-safe blend of familiar tested classic hits and bland but pleasant personalities.

WUMB to hold on to its solid 0.2 audience share book after book.

Comcast will put the NBC-TV soundtrack on an HD-2 so that people who can't get a picture can at least listen to the audio :)

On Monday, March 13, 2017....to mark the (to the day!) 50th anniversary of WNAC becoming "68 WRKO"....they'll "return to those thrilling days of yesteryear....."
And spin some Top 40....maybe for an hour....for old time's sake!!
if they do...I hope they remember that on Monday, March 13, 1967....the very first song played on "68" was the (then) #1 song on the Top 40 chart:
"Somethin' Stupid" by Frank and Nancy Sinatra....
I know .......I was listening that morning from my bedroom, getting ready for school....NO LIE!!
Maybe they can bring back Dale Dorman.....or Al Gates and "Feathers"!!!:) JJ Jeffrey??
At least Alan Bickley -- for a rousing session of "20/20 News"!!!

97.7 in the future...

They would be wise to do something urban and get established before Beasley gets it's translator up and running.

I would assume 97.7's signal is better than Beasley's translator.

I saw a promotions person at Entercom post on Facebook about having to move out of their office, so they can do some contruction within the building. Maybe the new studio is going to be in the old promotions office....

Gee, I'd kill for something like that (well, you know what I mean).

As Joe Biden would say, "This is a big #$%^&*@ deal!" Only this time, he's 100% correct.

97.7% chance of a flip in January. Not sure to what.

That would surprise me because they really seem to want WAAF to compete as a Boston station, and 107.3 still comes in lousy in much of the immediate Boston metro within Route 128 near the city, and to the south. In the City of Boston, it's surrounded by adjacent interfering pirates on both 107.1 and 107.5.

Hopefully the FCC can shut down these pirates;for that matter the 101.3 one will pose problems for WJIB's new translator (I was getting it as far north as Topsfield).Agreed about WAAF signal.
What I had heard was Ent. was trying to get back previous call letters on 97.7...perhaps WBOT (it was WILD-FM for a time, right, but WILD owners would squash that).
Word was that Ent. studios were being rehabbed and a home for the new station was being created.

Maybe in January. Ent. in effect lost a revenue stream when they had to move WEEI to FM to compete with Sports Hub (for a yr, 850 and 93.7 simulcast before the AM did all ESPN).They lost the revenue from Mike. They gained one back as ESPN pays them to be on 850, but maybe it isn't much! Here, the idea is losing the AAF simulcast but gaining another revenue stream.

Re call letters, radio locator at least doesn't show a WBOT on either AM or FM.Would they try to get WILD calls somehow..possibly deal with WILD owners to get them to switch then grab them?Or, do (heritage) calls matter? What WILD now airs has no relation to the days of soul and Sunny Jo.

Maybe WAAF should try installing some of the same type of on channel boosters that WXRV is now running? Also, shouldn't there still be an "extra" studio in Entercom's facility since Mike-FM went away? Not that their studio was used much since the Star days, but still pretty sure they had one.

Another change

Sports talk will remain the same but news talk will have one less player as WMEX gets sold and the new owner goes to either a foreign language or religious format.
