What do you guys predict Univision will do with KPTI? I predict they will start La QUE BUENA OR LA NUEVA 105.3 fm. A regional Mexican format.

It's often more productive when you do not post.

i think a simulcast of la tremenda, since they need a new home for the astros and texans, now that 980 is gone.

The previous facilities that were destroyed by Ike didn't cover many people. Likely, those wouldn't be rebuilt since they already have a construction permit to move to Winnie with new facilities that target Beaumont/Port Arthur and don't cover Houston either.

Wouldn't one assume whenever the station comes back, it will have some sort of format aimed at that market?

We don't need another station targeting the Beaumont / Port Arthur market. And if they were to ever locate with a minimal power all they would cover is the rabbits out by the tower. They don't have a power upgrade to go along with the move.

The permit KPTI has is an upgrade to a C2 (492' 50kw) from a A (180' 6kw). Coverage of the new Winnie facilities: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1209679.html

They cannot make this cover any sizeable part of the Houston metro with (1) co-channel KTWL 105.3 on the air northwest of town and (2) co-owned KAMA 104.9's tower in downtown Houston.

KAMA holds a permit to be a C2. If KPTI were to remain a class A, since it is second adjacent to 104.9, it's tower would be restricted 35 miles from KPTI's tower (and with KTWL, that means essentially restricted to the south, southeast, or east of KPTI's as well). For every increase in class (C3, C2, etc.), the further away from KAMA it has to move: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/spacing/. In other words, not matter what KPTI tries to do, it would lack 60 dBu signal in Harris County.

Since Beaumont has only a half dozen commercial FMs targeting it (KCOL-FM, KQXY, KYKR, KAYD, KTCX, KKMY, KIOC), and none of them Spanish-language in a market where about 10% of the market is Hispanic, I still imagine Univision would put on a Spanish-language format aimed at that market.

A slick trick to pull a 6000 watt blowtorch in the sand dunes and attempt to move it to Winnie where it would have much more power. Perhaps it will still get blocked from happening. We can only hope.
