Predictions for New York Radio in 2008

I started a thread about your predictions to New York radio for 2008. Here is my prediction:

1. Is CBS-FM will rise in the ratings?
2. Is WLTW will still be #1?
3. Is "Jack" will move to 92.3 if K-Rock does not do well as the dentist guy might say?
4. Is Don Imus continues at WABC?

Any thoughts about your predictions, please post. Thanks!

What exactly are your predictions? Your post contained four questions, which also happen to be grammatically incorrect. ???

1. CBSFM will essentially flatline, however there will be a least one thread per day discussing how its great its back or doomed to failure.
2. I dont see LTW gaining all its share back other than maybe a little bump from the holiday music this book. I think it will continue to fight with z100, and unless they stop messing with the station, ultimately lose.
3. Jack will stay on HD2. Krock has nothing left to lose at this point...it cant sink too much lower, but CBS can't really flip it to too much else (yes that includes country) The sad part is KRock can work to moderate success, but as has been hashed over and over, nothing's being done.
4. Imus has a huge contract...why is his job even a question?

To quote President Bill Clinton on the definition of "is"....

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement....Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true."

I can't predict...but I can hope. I hope Krock makes some serious moves and helps restore alternative rock in general. Krock in LA doesn't sound fun anymore and Q101 in Chicago has gone through a thousand changes. We need a big dog!!!

My prediction: THE RETURN OF DISCO.

Some of you out there might have though the last days of disco were in 2006, with the demise of Mix102.7 and the tweak at WgayTU toward more mainstream currents. But if going to weddings around has taught me anything, its that New Yorkers of a certain age love to drink too much vino and cut a rug to the Beegees. In 2005, New York supported three disco stations, Kiss, Mix, and 103.5. Why, two years after the fact, no disco station exists confounds me. Was there a huge demographic shift involving all the middle-aged people moving to Florida? Where will New Yorkers turn to now to get there fill of Tavarez, Chic, and various West End artists? My prediction, given the proven demand, a disco station will pop back up sometime this year, at least as a temporary format.

WCBS-FM's main demo are the baby boomers...how bout an "oldies" Disco station in NYC for another generation's blasts from the past??

But if the Disco Station will pop back in New York City, then it will be back for the second time ever is "The Studio 54 Classic Showcase with Joe Causi" on WCBS-FM 101.1 by every Sundays at 6-10PM, so the KTU will just play Rhythmic AC of the '80s, '90s and today for the rest of the decade and all morning/day/night/evening long and including Freestyle-Free for All with Judy Torres on Sundays at 9PM-12AM same time. So WCBS-FM will be playing the fabulous '60s, '70s and '80s vintage music of all time.

I've been predicting it for quite some time, WCBS-FM moving their Radio Greats from Sunday (6-10) to Saturday nights (6-10) to go head-to-head with WABC and Mark Simone's Saturday Night Oldies.
I hope, however, that it never comes to be in 2008, for the 2 shows make for great listening on Saturday nights and Sunday nights.

What I was predicting was a full time disco station.

I predict a full-time disco station will resurface in 2008 given that there were three in 2005.

How about Tom Kent? He is great doing his shows like "Hall of Fame Coast to Coast", "Remember the 70's" and "Classic Top 40", but he is on many of these oldies stations across the country, but he's coming to New York on CBS-FM. Tom Kent sounded great when he was on "Cool 92.9" in the Hudson Valley two years ago except his shows will still be on WTRY in Albany.

I hope Tom Kent will be syndicating out on CBS-FM.

As for the NY Radio Greats show, bring in Cousin Brucie, Booby Jay, Bill Brown, Johnny Dark and a few others to Sunday night, but enough with Ed Baer, Big Ron O'Brien and Steve O'Brien. Don K Reed will still be on at the end of every month and Norm N Nite from Sirius Gold will still be on at the beginning of every month.

Kiss? Kiss has been Urban AC for years!

Tom Kent is no longer doing his syndicated shows as he was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. Marty Thompson was been chosen to host weeknights and Saturday Night Live, while John "Records" Landecker hosts Into The 70's on weekends.

As for either Cousin Brucie or Bobby Jay coming back to do Radio Greats, don't hold your breath.

Pulse 87.7 will make waves in NY and the rest of the radio industry by playing music people really want to hear.

I stand corrected. According to a post on the Dentist's board, Bobby Jay will be on the NY Radio Greats on Sunday January 13th. Bobby's appearence on the NY Radio Greats will be a recreation of The Soul of The City.

Citadel Broadcasting's stock will rise over $2.06 $2.00 $1.93 $1.91 $1.72 a share. Sometime this year.

Maybe.

I wish they would just do a full-time current dance format on Pulse 87 instead of
the rumoured mix of block programming. I think dance would be perfect for this niche signal.
