predictions for summer song?

By this time last year, both the candidates for summer song were out, and we knew they would both be huge. This year, I'm not seeing anything to indicate songs will be huge. Here are my predictions,
Rihanna F. David Guetta - Right Now
Macklemore - Same Love though this song is kind of slow and probably won't be regarded as the summer song
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Bruno Mars - Treasure
Florida Georgia Line - cruise

I've heard Daft Punk's song mentioned as being a candidate for song of the summer. I don't know. It's ok, but to me, Daft Punk sounds kind of dated beside a lot of the newer EDM artists. Also, I do love the remix of "Cruise" with Nelly. Funny, this song, in it's original form, has been out since last summer. I was cranking it on vacation last year when it was bubbling low on the country charts for several months before finally taking off. A couple of others I like are Kelly Clarkson's "People like us" and Avril Lavigne's "Here's to Never Growing Up". (love cranking both of these up).

My vote goes to Cruise, Get Lucky, Blurred Lines, or even, depending on the time frame that you consider summer, Can't Hold Us.

Avril and Kelly seem to be stalling out/making very small gains. I think both of them are peaking soon.

If you are listing Miley/Selena/Demi as possible contenders for top summer song, don't forget Ariana Grande, currently at #9 on the Hot 100 just after Selena.

I'll go along with Mario's picks. They both sound a little old, but they're both catchy. "Treasure" gives props to the 80s. Compare that with "Girlfriend" by Pebbles sometime. Anway, I like it. Daft Punk is also good.

If it's a long, hot summer Icona Pop might be the song of the season (which is, by the way, why you should never hitchike in Sweden).

Macklemore has an outside shot.

As far as Kelly peaking goes, she's been on the chart almost constantly since 2011. I would think people are getting tired of her music, at least for now. I hope Maroon 5 peaks soon. They've been on the charts almost consistently for 2 years also.

^ I was referring to their individual songs peaking, though I do think Avril peaked years ago and probably wont be around CHR for much longer. Kelly, well, I thought she was going downhill in popularity and then "Stronger" became her biggest hit.

I feel like we are working towards an unofficial three way tie like in the summer of 2011 with Katy Perry, LMFAO and Pitbull all being rather equal contenders. At this point I think its going to end up being rather close for Bruno Mars, Daft Punk and Robin Thicke.

It doesn't seem like a straightforward rock song or even a pop rock song is a contender at this point, but I guess that Bruno Mars being pop, Daft Punk (kind of) representing EDM and Robin Thicke holding down the R&B/hip hop side, we should be grateful that there is a little more variety at CHR than a few years ago, when everything sounded like a mash-up of pop/electro/hip hop.

I think as of now

Slow Down - Selena Gomez
Made in the USA - Demi Lovato
Treasure - Bruno Mars
Get Lucky - Daft Punk
We Can't Stop - Miley Cyrus (Hate the Video)

Treasure - Bruno Mars sounds more like New Edition in 84

Heart Attack - Demi Lovato (Falling Down in the Charts)
Come & Get it - Selena Gomez (#1 in the Pop Charts)

I think "We Can't Stop" has a really good shot. Open House Party is always ahead of the CHR curve, and the song has been BLOWING UP the past couple of weeks. Watch for it to blow up.

I think it's pretty clear Robin Thick "Blurred Lines" is the leader. Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" is gaining though.

Depends on your radio station.

For most people, I think the following are the best contenders:
Florida Georgia Line - Cruise
Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop
Robin Thicke ft TI - Blurred Lines

What criteria do you use to determine the summer song? Is it the song that had the most spins on all CHR stations from June 21 to Sept 21? Just wondering…

You ave a point, I'm not sure how it's determined, probably general consensus from the public at large. I don't think that Call Me Maybe would have gotten summer song last year if it was based on spins, it didn't even hit #1 at all, peaked at #2 if I remember right. That's a good point.

Well you were close. It was #1 for nine weeks! I believe though that last years summer song was "Somebody That I Used to Know".

What chart are you looking at? I was remembering the AT40 chart, where Payphone was #1 for 4 weeks and Call Me Maybe peaked at #2. I didn't follow ITunes charts as closely back then, so I don't remember where it was there.
