Predictions for the new year - 2015

It's fun to do this, especially when you have no concrete knowledge.

For the Beaumont - Port Arthur area:
👉 a tweak of the format to add some newer music (92.5)
👉 one of two silent stations (1300 or 1340) is resurrected, albeit for a short time until it fails
👉 some familiar people leave the airwaves as the corporate downsizing continues - this leads to more syndicated programming

I don't know if this will happen or not, but San Antonio desperately needs a radio operator who can think outside the box and put some good music on the air.
Most stations down here are either corporate, repetitive and bland, or owned by people who could care less about what goes over the air and care more about leasing to groups who program niche formats most people just pass up...

There is a lot that will happen in East Texas in 2015. KWRW (Rusk) will do a frequency change and move into the Tyler-Longview area. Alpha Media has purchased KYKX, KOOI, KKUS and KOYE. I'd look for big changes there. Reynolds seems to be doing well with The Blaze and 99.3. KDOK will get a new translator on 107.9 in Henderson and will also get a power increase on their FM translator (101.9) in Longview. KCUL-AM in Marshall has been sold and will reinvent itself as an old school Motown station. I'm sure there is more to happen that I don't know about, so post your predictions here. Radio should be a pretty good spectator sport in East Texas in 2015.

Changes soon for KLVI? The decline and fall continues.

WOW.....the whole market took a downturn except for KYKR and KISS 104.5 (why they have kept the stupid KKMY call is beyond me).....Wish they would show ALL the stations (isn't there a page for that???)....and I guess since KTRH doesnt carry the Astros anymore, it doesnt get rated anymore in the BPT market...I think as long KLVI continues to bill as it does, it wont change anytime soon (BUT I DO have the '56 KLVI' shotgun jingle cart from the Top40 days somewhere!!!! ;) )

BTW, in case noone has noticed, 1510 KBED has been running 24/7 for the last week or more.....surprised iHeart Memphis has not bitched....but then again, it goes to prove that some "protection" was overkill in my opinion...in some areas of Beaumont, WLAC still overpowers KBED at night....but then thats a null area in the pattern.

Still have not figured out WHICH station is being sold in BPT for the "NEW" Gospel station....1340 would be the best overall signal as things stand NOW BUT its night reach to Lumberton is rough...in Beaumont, it is better than 1380 was at night! 990 would be the best signal but last week, ran some driving tests....on College St, ran through a spot where KZZB was GONE!!! (and there is no null in the pattern there!)....Also around Lamar, you hear Mexican music....so much for 990 covering its COL (where it used to cover the entire area!)...If 990's antenna system was working right, the signal would cover the area quite well....but Martin (as usual) is not gonna spend the money to fix it...the audio is maybe 50% mod since he doesnt have a processor in line..noone at the studios (guess Martin changed the main studio to Baytown after the last FCC visit where he ADMITTED the Beaumont studio was the main and NOT occupied during operating hours....geesh what a maroon...oh wait, thats right...religious folks are above the law  smh......)......

There is potential in this market....if I had the money, one AM station upgraded and fixed right could make a dent....KOGT doesn't do $1 million a year in sales BUT it makes enough to stay on the air and pay the employees......more than what can be said for 990, 1300, 1340 and probably 1150 (Who filed for and got a waiver on main studio!! WHAT A CROCK!!!)....I dont think an AM should be given such...especially a commercial AM...(which 1150 is still licensed as....whereas 1250 got non-commercial status)...1150 at night cannot be heard in Beaumont because of the DEEP null....I've heard WJBO BLOW in at night though their NEW night pattern is supposed to be a deeper null than it used to be...a change in freq and pattern could not hurt 1150 but trying to pry it from the "preachers" who took control of the station before the FCC granted approval (and got fined for it) and then doesnt program for their COL of Port Neches but claims to be a Port Arthur station because of the higher Hispanic numbers there.........oh well, I could go on....

I wish a 2000 ft master tower that had been planned in Vidor years ago had been built...all the TV and FMs could have been on it with their currents as backup...but wishes a lot of times DONT come true :D

This market is sooo screwed up now....I miss the 70s and 80s....
