Anyone here have any predictions for 2006? Here are mine:

92.5 - Status Quo
93.7 - Status Quo, tho I'm sure they'll have a big blow out for their 5th Anniversary.
95.7 - Status Quo, unless any of their syndicated shows make changes.
96.5 - Status Quo.
99.1 - Status Quo.
100.5 - Status Quo.
101.3 - See Kiss 95.7
102.9 - I think Buckley will flip it. Not sure to what, tho. Maybe to a mix of R&B Hits and Oldies similar to WYBC-FM 94.3/WKND 1230.
104.1 - Status Quo, unless S&B do something to get themselves fired.
105.9 - Status Quo.
106.9 - Should be interesting to see how they do by bring back Sebastian.
910 - Status Quo, unless The Plainville Police shuts them down for continually allowing Club 290 to advertise on the station after being order not to allow them to advertise.
960 - Status Quo.
990 - I hope they will grow again and regain the same popularity they had prior to their switch to Spanish programming in May 2004.
1080 - Status Quo.
1230 - Flips to either gospel or an all brokered format if 102.9 goes R&B Hits and Oldies.
1300 - Status Quo, unless Air America goes belly up.
1320 - Status Quo.
1360 - Status Quo.
1410 - Status Quo.
1550 - Status Quo.
 
It would be nice to have a WYBC-type station on FM in Hartford County. I like WYBC-FM, but they can't improve their signal any, since there's another 94.3 broadcaster on Long Island. As for WZMX-FM, will they stop calling themselves "The ALL NEW Hot 93.7"? They flipped in March of 2001. Give it up already!<P ID="signature">______________

Thats such a common thing, however, for stations which are contemporary, playing new music, to constantly call themselves new.
 
Maybe come March 2006 which will be 5 years, Hot 93.7 will stop saying "The All New" and just say Hot 93.7 Hartford's #1 For Hip Hop and R&B. They could change that to and be Hot 93.7 CT's #1 For Hip Hop and R&B which they really are.

Oldies 102.9 flipping? Pretty bold considering the 1.3 million people over 45 living in CT.

My guess is that AirAmerica moves to a station with a stronger signal (if their contract permits), as 1300 is pretty weak for such a blue state. Maybe 600?
Sebastian will stink just like he used to. 106.9 will put Picozzi in the morning slot by December '06, but the only question is, will we see a reunion with "the Horn".

See, here's the thing. 102.9 isn't oldies, any more. They're classic hits. And currently they're the number 9 FM station in a market that has 9 FM stations.

I listened to 102.9 at around 6 pm yesterday (Thursday). You were right, and if the 2 songs I heard are indicative of their regular playlist, they will DEFINITELY flip or fold in 2006!!!<P ID="signature">______________

They may flip but they won't fold. Not with an owner the size of Buckley.
If what they are doing doesn't work, then they'll change it, but you'll never see WDRC-FM throw in the towel and surrender the license.

For a few weeks, they were interesting in a train-wreck kind of way, playing everything from "Harper Valley PTA" to "Season of the Witch" to "Miss You" to "This Magic Moment," sometimes in the same song set. Now it's just safe hits of the '60s, '70s and '80s, with extra emphasis on Billy Joel, Hall and Oates and Motown. The playlist is bigger than WHCN's, but it's not edgy or daring, and the mix of styles just doesn't sound right. If you're going to play something like Mister Mister's "Broken Wings" or Madonna's "La Isla Bonita," please get the Dave Clark Five's "Over and Over" and the O'Jays' "Backstabbers" off your playlist!

I'd thought that Armstrong's W2XMN (today's WPAT-FM) was the first FM. Anyone know if that was just one of the first few?

First off, W2XMN has *no* connection whatsoever to WPAT-FM, except that WPAT-FM uses the frequency that the Armstrong station (by then, KE2XCC) used at the end, 93.1. But the Armstrong station signed off in 1954, and WPAT-FM didn't come along (as a new license, at that) for another four years or so.

(If you wanna get technical, there was actually an earlier WPAT-FM, on 107.5. It went off the air circa 1951, when its antenna was damaged in a storm, and never returned.)

Yes, W2XMN predated WDRC-FM/WHCN by a few months. So, for that matter, did W1XOJ at Paxton MA. But neither of those stations survived, which makes WHCN (the original WDRC-FM) arguably the oldest continuously-operating FM station in the world. <P ID="signature">______________

My preditions for 2006 is HOT 93.7 will still be one of best Hip Hop station in America .America worse top 40 station Kiss 95.7 will get better ( gotta get up when you at the bottom ) . Wendy Williams will leave Power 104.1 . A Spanish FM station will be on in Hartford Area .
