Preds on the move?

This could only hurt The Buzz. Regular Buzz listeners would HATE their music being preempted for several hours for hockey games, especially on weekends.

Who would actually benefit from this? Maybe The Zone. The Zone's best ratings come during football season. And the thing that irks football fans most about The Zone is when they start talking Predators during football season. SO, less Predators talk equals payoff for The Zone's football-fan listeners.

Plus, no Predators games means The Zone is free to carry UT Women's Basketball games, which actually could draw more listeners than a regular season Predators game. Yes, I said that Pat Summit's team might bring in more listeners than a regular season Predators game. The Zone has spent so much time over the past several years trying to convince their listeners that Nashville COULD be a pro hockey town, and it remains to be seen. I don't believe The Zone would stop talking Predators, but merely LESS hockey talk on the top sports station means fewer local fans. Just ask Vanderbilt — while UT and the Titans both turned in not-so-stellar performances this past weekend, Vandy had a big win — and whole lot fewer Nashvillian sports fans realize that, because The Zone is no longer Vandy's flagship.

Given all the past guilt trips, er, Predators season ticket telethons on The Zone should Plaz catch some grief? If selling Preds ticket sales bordered on urgency (as The Zone afternoon crew had us believe--magic number is 14K, Balsille blasts, etc.) should The Zone have held up their end of the deal and kept broadcast rights? This smacks of hypocrisy.

The Zone didn't have a choice for keeping the rights, they lost them. Especially in these days of PPM, if the Zone is put in a position where it is forced to choose, it's going to choose the Titans and UT sports. Those are the programs that are going to generate the most ratings and business. Even the Vandy fans on the Zone recognize that. It's not hypocrisy, it's business.

8,000 season tickets sold. Thats decent. The people who follow the Preds aren't listening to women's basketball and they will know to go to The Buzz. In fact, its a decent fit. I have to admit that it will be interesting to have a few nights of virtual sports on FM vs. any real rock.
Well it will leave Jack, RLT and NRQ. God help us if Delilah is the hardest rocker on the dial.

Maybe satellite radio... Maybe Internet... But, hey, terrestrial radio - it's a business...

Just saw a blog post that said the Preds will be on The Buzz this year....Any truth to that?

officially announced at 4pm today...
BTW...first pre-season game on 102.9 Mon 9-27

There was also a blurb about it in today's Tom Taylor newsletter - though he failed to write "The Nashville board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the move now..." Feh.

First broadcast is 9/27?!?!?! Lets hope The Buzz has hit the ground running and hired Jeremy Bennefield. Lots of moving parts and he has the know how to pull it off! He was my go to guy when we first put the Preds on The Zone and did a great job.

p.s no he did not pay me to say that.....yet...haha

You confuse me a bit... Hasn't Jeremy been on the Predators' payroll last couple of years as game producer for the radio broadcast? Or has he been a Zone employee in that role? Would you mind clarifying a little about what responsibilities/roles related to the radio broadcast are the Predators, and what are the Zone's, at least in your day?

Jeremy set up the Broadcast side of "Predators Network" for us. He then went to work for the preds for the 2006-2007 year. The past few years he has worked back at The Zone for the games.
The Predators wanted a "Network" much like The Titans but didn't have the man power nor the tools to pull it off. Little things like how the signal would get out were not worded in the contract. We thought we would just catch the feed and put it on the air much like a Vandy game. Not so in the eyes of the Preds. As you may know it takes a lot of people to do what the Titans radio folks do...full time and part time jobs and we only had the staff we had to pull it off. Jeremy did it all.Every thing that you heard on air, Jeremy pulled it together in a short time and got it on the air.
I'll let him jump in to fill in the gaps
