Premiere adds clock for Bill Handel show

Interesting that there are only two network spots on the clock. I wonder if this is a strategy to get more affiliates on the front end...only giving up 2 minutes of inventory will be appealing to many programmers. The real question is 'will it play in Peoria?'

Handel has always said that he would never want his morning show in syndication because it wouldn't fly outside of California. With this news of a syndicated afternoon/evening show, I would assume it will be toned down a bit from what the morning show offers. If it's not it won't "play in Peoria."

Fun Fact: In the early early days of XM Radio, Bill Handel's morning show was played on Buzz XM channel 166 on a delayed basis. Strangely enough, they didn't play Handel on the Law for a couple more years.

Handel's show has "toned down" considerably since I first discovered him several years ago while looking for something to listen too when Howard Stern was doing best of. Hearing Howard again shouldn't be boring but for some reason whenever he was off for vacation they had a library of bits that they replayed and it always seemed to be the same ones so I got tired of it. I found Handel and when Howard went to Sirius I just stuck with Bill and his show. In actuality only the first two hours are still entertaining. The rest except for the reprise of "Handel On The News" at 8:30 is just Bill reading from prepared scripts and not very well. It is sort of Dennis Prager without the passion and personal knowledge of his subject matter.

It doesn't detract from the local inventory that's being made available. They're making 17:10 available to stations, which is a typical allotment. Program content will consume 40:50 an hour, which is very generous these days especially for an afternoon drive show.

There are some shows like Sean Hannity's that give 19:10 to locals and keep 6:00 for the network. That's a lot of commercials (34:50/hour of program content). The Schnitt Show makes 18:40-19:40 available to stations depending on the hour, and keeps 5:00 for the network. Dr. Laura surprisingly has 16:10 local avails and 5:00 for the network. Randi Rhodes has even less local avails with 15:10. I'd like to know what Dave Ramsey makes available, but his show clock isn't made public.
