Premiere Announces New Hosts For Rush Slot

I will be very happy to not have Clay Travis on Fox Sports Radio any longer, so a big thank you to Premiere for this decision.

That makes me wonder what what happens to affiliates of the Buck Sexton show? That show airs 6PM to 9PM. And does this mean Clay is leaving his morning show on Fox Sports Radio? Because I agree he's become more annoying as his show has become less about sports and more about politics.

In an article last week about Audacy filling Rush's former time slot with The Dana Show, they also mentioned that some stations are carrying Compass Media's "Markley, Van Camp and Robbins".

One has to wonder if these transitions might have a negative effect on the AM band. At the time Rush started building his affiliate count and becoming really well-known, some said it was a short in the arm at minimum, or a revival at best, for AM radio. Now that Rush is gone and his former station list is now fragmented and at least 1/2 dozen hosts or shows are taking over his old noon-3 slot, and none of these new hosts seem to be "household names", will people spend time listening to the newer offerings, or will they pine for the days of Rush and find something else to listen to?
KMOX is one Audacy station that has gone local in the slot.

One of the other releases indicated that Clay (who just sold his "Outkick the Coverage" brand to Fox Sports, would be doing his podcasts but didn't specify if Travis would keep doing the morning show.

Our local news, which also has an arrangemet with the Cumulus News-Talk station that was the Rush affiliate did a big story about "Rush Limbaugh's replacement!" Clay and Buck. Only problem is it won't be being heard here.

So im assuming that brady quinn and jonas knox are going to be taking over outkick the coverage they were filling in this past morning for clay.
The last time I heard Brady Quinn on radio was when he was doing color commentary for a football game when I happened to be scanning through the channels one weekend. I found it insulting that a lackluster quarterback who did well in college but basically floundered in the pros with only 12 TDs but 17 interceptions to his name was on the radio telling the world how he would have done this differently or how he would've ran a particular play had he been in charge. He spoke with the kind of clout that might be afforded a long-standing NFL veteran who had a brilliant playing career. That quite obviously doesn't describe Quinn.

I'm just wondering who, if any, of the Rush replacements will get to use the iconic "beeeeeeeeeeee-DUNK" EIB sounder, or if it will be retired.
Seeing as there is no actual "EIB", it's doubtful. Maybe Clay and Buck can say they're broadcasting from the Rush Limbaugh (name of sponsor) studio (though it won't be the one in West Palm Beach)....they probably won't even be in the same physical space).

You bring up an interesting question: What studio will this show come from? Buck is in NY, Clay is in Nashville. Is Clay moving to NY to do this show?

The monolithic programming of far right, outrage-theater conservative talk permanently stigmatized the AM band long ago. It fires up an indoctrinated niche audience of 55+ year-old, white men, some of whom are increasingly emerging in public for things like marching in Charlottesville and storming the Capitol. Everyone else sees AM for what it is and removed it from their lives long ago. Replacing old extremist hosts with new ones won't change anyone's perception of the AM band.

It's one of the few heritage commercial AMs in the nation still broadcasting content with a broader appeal, and it's nice to see them being rewarded with good ratings for it. Unfortunately most AMs don't have the courage for that, they keep chasing the cheap and mindless low-hanging fruit instead. Or they're airing fundamentalist religion or ethnic programming.

Or maybe they won't use the name Rush Limbaugh or the slogan "Excellence In Broadcasting" much, if at all. I am guessing that the hosts (and possibly iHeartMedia) will want the show to establish its own identity.

People insist "Excellence in Broadcasting" is the name of a network and it's not. No, they'll be establishing their own identity.

Why do I have my doubts that Clay Travis will be moving to NY? I don't think the 23 hosts will have to be in the same physical space.
