What are your thoughts on their two channels? I've been listening lately on iHeartRadio, and I like it.
The Beat is the Urban station that is VERY heavy on gold. They also break a lot of new music first. They run Steve Harvey in the morning, and during his breaks, they run usually the same gold, but still pretty decent how they do it. Since Steve is a Urban AC show though, I'd run regular music in the mornings. I always thought they should get Rickey Smiley in the morning on The Beat, and Steve Harvey on All My Jams which I'll get into here in a second. The Beat's voiceGIRL is MC Lyte which I'm not a fan of at all, but they seem to really like it. The DJ's are good. They're all VT'd, and you can tell based on their "going into spots" breaks where they come right back with the "back to the music" VT. Not a fan of that. Overall, good music mix, lots of variety for the most part.
All My Jams is the Urban AC station that seems to have a good handle on that format. They play R&B hits and isn't extremely gold heavy like I thought it would be. They also run Steve Harvey in the morning, and Keith Sweat's Sweat Hotel at night. They run a lot of that "random gold" in the morning during Steve's show too. Not sure who their voiceguy is, but he's very good. The DJ's seem solid, and I like how a lot of the iHeartRadio DJ's sound live. Good music mix as well.
Anybody know who's the PD of both stations? What are your thoughts?
