Preparation. Concentration. Termination.

Are you freakin' SERIOUS? Right now....there isn't ANYTHING that Clear Channel does that surprises me! Who's next.....R.J.? Now THAT would be tragic!

That's really a shame. My contacts with Chris over the years have always been professional and courteous, and at close to 20 years at the River, Chris is a Harrisburg institution. Can't imagine why CC would want to lose a person of Chris's character and abilities.

It seems that since they bought Metro Networks it left them a bit short of cash. To make up for the shortfall....they get rid of the vets who are making the most money. It matters NOT that the River had a great book. Chris built a great radio station....and I wish him only the best.

Hall better snap him up fast for 92.7--could be a little coup.

How long is a CC non-compete? It could run out in time for the Cumulus/Citadel close. They may be looking to put something on 106.7 once the deal is done.

Since 92.7 is classic rock, I'd envision 106.7 turning into a hip hop station (unfortunately). Doubt he'd fit into that format.

Chris Tyler got fired today. Discuss.
No doubt, Chris Tyler will land a new gig before long, if he hasn't already. But yeah, this was the guy who essentially created and maintained The River for nineteen years, and it's hard to imagine him not being there. If memory serves, WRVV hit the air in May 1992.

That's not gonna happen. The numbers for The River are good....at least the 12+ numbers that we can see. Why Chris was fired I don't know....but it's going to be tough to maintain that format without the guy who created it. I do understand that Chris butted heads on occasion with Clear Channel brass, who wanted to mold The River into their cookie cutter image. J.T. Bosch is now the guy in charge of the cluster.....and he's a true CC guy...from what I understand.

unbelievable that chris tyler ( the man that put THE RIVER on the map) is gone after nearly 20 yrs at WRVV. i was in radio from '78-'08, and THE RIVER is one of the most professional "clean" sounding radio stations i have ever heard. the stupidity of radio never ceases to amaze me. i-pods, pandora, & the like are outlets that will continue to hurt radio. if anyone has any more info on what happened, or what is happening, please post. thanx

Chris is and always will be an upstanding guy. He will surely land on his feet, and not soon enough. Clear Channel must have more money invested in Ipods and the like than they do in terrestrial radio. It's the only thing that would explain their haste to destroy radio for good. Ass-hats.

I've never met Mr. Tyler, but I do know the River, essential listening on journeys to Central Pa. WRVV is like a blend of Philly's Ben FM, B-101 and WMGK, with spot-on stationality for its market and a nice dose of community contact. If the River was his work, he did good. (The ratings seem to bear this out.) Let's hope he's not on the beach for long ... radio needs that kind of programming talent.

I'm sure it was a budget move. When Tyler was hired at the River in 1992, the station was owned by Dame Media. Al Dame was fond of fair compensation for air talent. Some might even say overly so. Nonetheless, Mr. Tyler was well paid. So well, there was some fear that he might have been cut when the stations transferred to Clear Channel in 1999. Fortunately, Chris dodged the budget bullet......... until last week.

Here's a thought: Randy Michaels brought up the "asshole factor" at a convention one time. The asshole factor is how secure your job is and how much you can get away with based on:

skill level
ability to accept change
attitude
gets along well with others
experience
client repoire
"market" value
ratings achievement
attachment to revenue
"maintenance" level (high or low)
compensation & benefit level

In short the higher everything is, except compensation and "maintenance", the bigger your asshole factor is and the harder you are to live without. What's your factor?
