Preparing for the Ellen-calypse

Note some of Ellen's former staff members are reassigned to the Jennifer Hudson show.

Hudson’s show hails from Warner Bros., the same studio that was behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which just closed its curtain after 19 years on the air. Many of DeGeneres’ top producers are moving over to Hudson’s show. Her show will also be taped from the same studio where “Ellen” was shot on the Warner. Bros. lot.

Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner and Corey Palent — all executive producers from “Ellen” who had been with the show since its start in 2003 — will serve as showrunners on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

Ahead of the launch, both Connelly and Lassner have inked overall deals with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television to develop, create and produce other unscripted series for the studio.

Hudson will also serve as an executive producer on her show. Along with Connelly, Lassner and Palent, other executive producers are Lisa Kasteler Calio, Graehme Morphy and Walter Williams III, plus co-executive producer Shani Black.

On Monday on KMBC Ellen and Kelly switch and Noon Newscast switches over from KCWE so that means changes from 9am to 11am to.

Here’s a look at the KNBC lineup for Fall 2022:

  • NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt at 3:30 p.m. (replaces The Ellen DeGeneres Show) new or repeat
  • NBC4 News at 4 p.m.
  • NBC4 News at 5 p.m.
  • NBC4 News at 6 p.m.
  • NBC4 Nightly News with Lester Holt at 6:30 p.m.
  • NBC4 News at 7:00 p.m.

Does this mean the east coast version of NBC Nightly News is airing in LA now on KNBC.

It shouldn't be a surprise.

KABC Los Angeles and KGO San Francisco already air the live East Coast edition of ABC World News TONIGHT at 3:30 p.m. while KPIX San Francisco also airs the live East Coast edition of the CBS Evening News at the same time.

May I remind you, they all also air the West Coast editions at 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. in KGO's case).

Thats interesting that they will air the nightly news in line with the east and central time zones

That might be something for KIRO to consider now that Right This Minute has been cancelled. They could move the first hour of Judge Judy up to 2:30 and 3pm and put the CBS Evening News at 3:30. Though it doesn’t draw the ratings that WNT and the Nightly News do.

With WCCB confirmed to be getting Jennifer Hudson, I think that will be their Ellen replacement at 4pm.

I don't know if this is entirely appropriate for this thread, but it seems like almost all channels that carried Ellen at 4pm will be having newscasts, and furthermore, it actually seems like most major market TV stations have them now (if not a 3pm newscast). What's the big idea with all this news? Is it because they have nothing better to put on?

News is generally a moneymaker when you expand your economy of scale. You have crews already working, adding an hour amortizes those costs over more airtime and you keep all the ad revenue.

Worth mentioning that I saw on another board that Kelly Clarkson is moving in both Pittsburgh and Orlando to replace Ellen. This also happened here in Charlotte, except it happened a year early and Ellen moved an hour earlier for its last season to make room for Kelly.

In Des Moines Ellen use to air at 4pm on WHO 13 until like 2014 when they cancelled Ellen to air the 4pm News.

Ellen then moved to KCCI 8 at 4pm where it stayed till May 25, 2022.

Kelly Clarkson use to air at 12:35am on KCCI 8 since they picked her show up in 2020. Kelly then moved to 3pm in December 2021.

On May 25, 2022 Ellen moved to 3pm and Kelly moved to 4pm. They showed a promo last week that the Jennifer Hudson Show was coming this fall so most likely Jennifer will air at 3pm.

KSND airs Access Live at 1pm but the flagship Access Hollywood airs in the undesirable slot after Seth Myers at 1:37am. As the only NBC O&O carrying Wheel and Jeopardy going far back as New World pre FOX, I wish Access Hollywood should take the first half of the 2pm slot and the statewide California Live taking the second half at 2:30pm before Kelly Clarkson replacing Ellen so KNSD expand their 11am slot to a full hour. With NBC moving Days of Our Lives to their own freemium streamer Peacock in favor of a new hour long national newscast, NBCU O&O has to make significant options in syndication between Today and 4pm news (except NBC Bay Area KNTV) like picking up CBS distributed Rachel Ray which is shown on WBTS Boston and KNTV San Jose. Reply if u reached out to NBCU Stations Group about syndication changes following Days and Ellen cancellation.
