Preparing For The "Oprah-calypse"

So, is the 'Oprah-calypse' defined as the moment when her gravitational field captures that of Earth and we all die from the collision that ensures?
 
I'm glad you asked, WNCC: According to the article in the original post, they will be off to see "Dr. Oz" starting next fall.
 
I wonder if WFSB in Hartford will go with a 4PM Newscast and compete against FOX 61 or if they'll grab Dr. Oz from FOX 61.

If they grab Dr. Oz from FOX 61 that will open up the 9AM & 5PM timeslot. They can take back Jerry and Steve from sister station WCCT. FOX 61 puts Steve on at 9AM, Steve on at 10AM, move Millionaire and Family Feud over to WCCT 11AM-1PM. Then FOX 61 Puts Raymond in the 5PM-6PM slot. Everything in the overnight moves up an hour. Move the 4AM airing of Roseanne to 11:30AM. And start their morning news at 4AM.
 
I hope WALA-TV in Mobile, Alabama repurchases the local rights to broadcast "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" from WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida and schedules it for 4:00 PM, when WEAR-TV does a 4:00 PM newscast, followed by a 5:00 PM newscast. WALA-TV used to broadcast "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" during its first year and it would make a great replacement for "The Oprah Winfrey Show", which the station has broadcast since the beginning.

This would allow WEAR-TV to bring either "The Jerry Springer Show" or "The Maury Povich Show" back to the station from WFGX-TV (Fort Walton Beach, Florida), which would have more time to broadcast programming from ThisTV. As for what WFGX-TV could do with the remaining syndicated talk show: sell it to another station. WEAR-TV and WFGX-TV are both owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.

A 4:00PM newscast would be a smart idea for WFSB
Could look something like this:
4:00PM - Eyewitness News at 4
4:30PM - Inside Edition
5:00pm - Eyewitness News at 5
5:30pm - Eyewitness News at 5:30
6:00pm - Eyewitness News at 6
6:30pm - CBS Evening News
7:00pm - Eyewitness News at 7
7:30pm - Entertainment Tonight
(then CBS Primetime)
 
Local news will be the first option for many stations, especially if they can sneak it in without hiring additional staff. I suspect my station is in for the same treatment once the current Judge Judy contract ends.

I know that here in Boston, longtime Oprah affiliate WCVB is going to be moving the Ellen DeGeneres Show from 9 am to 4 pm.
 
According to a banner ad running on the Broadcasting and Cable website, Anderson Cooper's new talk show is "replacing Oprah" on WJLA in Washington and KFMB in San Diego, as well as KBAK in Bakersfield.

I looked at the TV schedule & Dr. Phil airs at 3pm on KTVT while KXAS airs Oprah at 4pm. If KTVT aired Dr. Phil at 4pm & Oprah learned about it, KTVT would get sued, because there's a clause in the contract that states that a competing station picking up Dr. Phil can not air his show at the same time as Oprah, which is 4pm in Dallas/Fort Worth. That's like in Chicago, Dr. Phil can not air at 9am on WBBM-TV or secondary affiliate WCIU 26.2 (U Too) as Oprah on WLS-TV (ABC). With Oprah ending her show, then the stations can move his show to the former Oprah time slot, if they so desire. Rachel Ray in Chicago is on WGN-TV (CW) & is on at 10am, while Dr. Oz is on at 3 & 4pm on WFLD (Fox), & those stations are playing it safe to not being on at the same time as Oprah either. Oprah has a stake in their shows too, & may have the same clause in their contracts.

For Dr. Phil in Chicago, WBBM-TV (CBS) airs it at 2pm while seconday affiliate WCIU 26.2 (U Too/Independent) airs it at 8pm.

As for WLS-TV, they already have plans for a local talk show that'll start in September. It'll be the first time WLS-TV has had a local talk show since Oprah hosted AM Chicago from 1984 to 1986. (AM Chicago was on in the 70's with different hosts)

We currently have two 4:00 p.m. newscasts up against Oprah. We may get a third 4:00 p.m. newscast once Oprah is gone.

Are you sure you understood where I was going? First, Oprah is on WFAA, not KXAS; KXAS and KTVT have 4 PM newscasts. Second, I would assume that, come September, any station that wants to put Dr. Phil into Oprah's old timeslot can do so--but not before. That, I believe, would not happen in Dallas if he stays on KTVT. Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz are not affected by this non-compete clause.

In Chicago, theoretically WBBM could flipflop Dr. Phil and "Let's Make A Deal" the way KCBS Los Angeles did with "Deal" and Rachael Ray; in LA "Deal" was on at 9 AM, Rachael at 2 PM. Didn't work; she'd been on at 9 when "Guiding Light" was on at 2, and LA viewers didn't go for the change, so she's back at 9 and "Deal" is on at 2. I'm not saying or even implying that WBBM will do something similar with Dr. Phil; I'm just saying it's theoretically possible, although I'm not counting on it.

WSB Atlanta has already announced that it will begin its new 4 PM newscast May 26, the day after Oprah's last first-run show.
 
Has anyone heard what KING 5 in Seattle is going to do? Are we going to see KING 5 News at 4pm (which then could be repeated at 5pm on KONG 6/16 :D)?
