Presets

The last music-heavy AM station I remember was the old JAMZ 910 (just before WZMX-FM switched over to their HOT 93.7 hip-hop format). Despite being a mono 5,000 watt AM station, I actually enjoyed it! While they played mostly hip-hop, they did throw in the occasional adult R&B song from Luther Vandross, Anita Baker and Barry White. Maybe I should listen to the few airchecks I have of them, come to think of it! :)

WXCT could have gone all-Gregorian chants, and you would have said it was "pretty good". :-X

WIHS? That's just down the street from me these days.

Before I post my list, I need to mention 2 things, first is that I don't bother with all the presets as most of what I want to listen to can be obtained by what is already there and going up or down a couple notches. Also, even though I'm a former college rap DJ (from a time when college radio was the only place for good hip-hop) I don't have 93.7 as I just don't listen to them, I find Jamz 910 was a much better station as far as program and musically. Another station like it could work if it were programmed correctly and 104.1 was not, they didn't know the audience here at all and the talk show crap they ran was out of place in this market. 93.7 works because it's closer to what the audience here was used to at the time it started and that was listening to hip-hop on weak signals from NYC and on local college stations that almost never broke up the music with alot of talk (except a few examples I will leave out at that's too far along this tangent I wish to drop now).

I'll place both BAND 1 & 2 on the same line:

FM1-1 WESU FM2-1 WFCR
FM1-2 WNPR FM2-2 WKSS (used just for skipping to the near middle of the band)
FM1-3 WLNG FM2-3 WDRC (for Mom)
FM1-4 102.5 FM2-4 WKCI
FM1-5 99.5 FM2-5 WBLS

AM1-1 WTIC AM2-1 WCBS (gets me to 800 for CKLW faster)
AM1-2 Empty to AM2-4 (still as the factory laft them and I can't remember those except the following two)
AM1-5 1600 AM2-5 1700

FYI. 97.9 is the middle of the band, so your FM1-5 preset is closer to the middle of the band than your FM2-2 one is.

At home, I have a preset on 90.7 to see if WFUV is coming in, or who else is, to identify DX condiitons.
I have a preset for 107.9 (Kiss 108), that I use to "start" going up the band during DX conditions.

That's why I said "near" middle, ok, more like a 1/4 to 1/3rd jump. It gets me closer to the stuff around 94 to 97. The FM1-5 is rarely used except to check for pirates.

12/29 - Updated my presets again.

FM 1:

1. 102.9 DRC-FM
2. KIX 97.9
3. Country 92.5
4. I-95
5. Rock 102
6. The River 105.9

FM 2:
1. Lite 100.5
2. Radio 104.1
3. KC 101.3
4. KISS 95.7
5. 97.3 WZBG
6. 90.5 WNPR

The presets will stay this way until KIX signs off 97.9 for good. If I'm able to pick up the new 100.9 signal, I'll switch it. If not I'll move everything up one and then make button 6 on FM-1 WPLR. If I can pick up the new 100.9 and the new format on 97.9 is something I'd like I'll have to remove one preset. Probably KISS 95.7

1. WTIC 1080 (For Clark Howard and Local Weather)
2. WCBS 880 (For NYC News and the NY Yankees)
3. WATR 1320
4. WSNG 610 (For Dr. Joy)
5. WICC 600 (For Clark Howard)
6. WLAT 910

I updated my AM Presets today 1/23/12

1. WTIC 1080 (Clark Howard, The Giants, and Local Weather)
2. WCBS 880 (NYC News and NY Yankees)
3. WSNG 610 (Dr. Joy)
4. WICC 600 (For Clark Howard. He's on during the day on WICC and he's not pre-empted as often as he is on WTIC)
5. POWER 990 WXCT
6. MEGA 910 WLAT

Why did I remove WATR 1320? Truthfully I don't even remember the last time I listened to that station. Now that WXCT 990 is actually running a decent format (Spanish Tropical simulcast from WSPR) this is the first time in nearly 5 years I'm able to give WXCT a preset. WSPR was always a good Spanish Tropical station, but never came in well enough for me to give 1270 a preset.

So 990 is once again known as "POWER 990" now?

Yes. This time as a simulcast of Springfield's Power 1270. The announcers are clearly saying en Espanol Power 1270 y Power 990. And an illegal top of the hour Legal ID WSPR "Power 1270" Springfield, Massachusetts y WXCT "Power 990" Hartford, Connecticut - a Service of Davidson Media Group. (Of course there's also an old Charlie Profit voiced ID that plays on top of the programming a few minutes before the top of the hour. WXCT Southington).

Clear Channel isn't going to give up their heritage stations in favor of a sports station or a country station. 93.1 and 105.9 have major recognition in their markets. Of course if I had my wish, they would have moved WRNX to 97.9 and kept KIX on 100.9. I used to love WRNX...oh well...

Okay... if I lived in Connecticut, considering it was the Eastern part of the state, this would be how my FM presets would look:

1. Kool 101 (I know... big shocker, right?)
2. 94.9 News Now / 3. 106.5 WBMW / 4. 97.7 WCTY / 5. 102.3 WMOS / 6. WEEI 103.7

103.7 FM of Westerly/Providence is now WVEI-FM, while WEEI-FM is now 93.7 FM of Lawrence/Boston (transmitter in Peabody). As for eastern Connecticut, would you preset WILI-FM 98.3 of Willimantic?
