Isn't "cheesy '80s" redundant when it comes to most daytime TV of that decade?
Truth be told, I liked the original incarnation of Press Your Luck, and I used to joke that they probably gave potential contestants EKGs before approving them to compete on the air.
I also noticed that the show was set up so that the first set of spin-gathering questions, the first round of the big board, and the second set of questions all took place in the first half of the show, and the board had a lot more landing spots that included an extra spin in the second half. You can call it "cheesy" if you want, but I can see that there was a lot of thought behind the concept.
