ATLANTA GA –
KICKS longtime APD/ Music Director, Johnny Gray announces his retirement.
According to Gray,“I’ve done all I can do, you just come to terms with the fact that I have had an unbelievable run, and now I can spend more time on the boat and with family. It is rare to find radio stations and a company where you can work for twenty years and leave on your own terms.”

“Without question Johnny is one of the most respected APD/Music Directors in our business, People are generally happy to see him…anywhere…anytime. There is not a boardroom in Nashville where Johnny is not anything but a welcomed pro.” said ABC Radio Atlanta President and General Manager, Victor Sansone.

“Johnny is a remarkable guy, he’s one of a kind, I can not ever remember having more laughs with anyone. Country radio and Atlanta will not be the same without him. He is truly one of the great characters of our business. We have all learned a lot from Johnny, and I will always be proud to call him a friend.,” stated Mark Richards, Operations Manager.

Gray started his radio career in 1963 in Alabama, and after a short stint in the record business, he came to Atlanta in the early 1980’s to Program WPLO, in 1985 he came to KICKS (WKHX-FM) where he has been Music Director for the last two decades.

Johnny’s last day at the station will be Friday September 22nd; OM Mark Richards will take on the day-to-day music responsibilities temporarily. “I am evaluating internal candidates and will announce shortly who on our staff will take on the duties of Music Director,” said Richards.

I have known lots of MD's in the business and none was better than "Bubba" Gray! Johnny, congratulations on living the radio dream! May retirement be a joy and a blessing. It was an honor to have known you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Johnny when I was in school. We got a tour of the KICKS/EAGLE/DISNEY studios, and got to spend some time with him. Talk about a guy who knows the business, and has really gotten the best out of it! Congrats, Johnny!
