MSNBC Signs On With Sirius XM Radio
News Channel To Debut On Satellite Service April 12
MCN Staff -- Multichannel News, 4/7/2010 11:32:38 AM

Sirius XM Radio will add MSNBC to its roster next week.

Beginning April 12, satellire radio provider Sirius XM will carry MSNBC, offering its subscribers across the country access to the network's reporting, full schedule of live news coverage, political analysis and award-winning documentary programming.

MSNBC will air on Sirius channel 90 and XM channel 120. Deal terms were not disclosed.

"We welcome MSNBC's dynamic lineup of shows and hosts to Sirius XM," said Scott Greenstein, president and chief content officer, Sirius XM Radio, in announcing the deal. "At virtually every time of day and evening, MSNBC provides compelling and entertaining commentary and news. Now millions of listeners can stay connected via Sirius XM to their favorite source for news, politics, and the singular personalities of MSNBC wherever they go."

"We're thrilled to have MSNBC's programming available to SIRIUS XM's millions of listeners," said MSNBC president Phil Griffin. "We know our viewers will appreciate the ability to take MSNBC with them when they're away from the TV, from Morning Joe on the way to the office to our opinion programs on the way home to breaking news anytime."

I agree...

IIRC MSNBC was on XM until the merger. I like to listen to both ends of the political spectrum, but the only two news organizations that I take seriously (as opposed to entertainment) are the BBC and when I can find it on shortwave is the VOA.

Why would anyone want to listen to PMSNBC?

But most talk radio listeners ARE.

True, that. I lean liberal and have no interest in listening to talk hosts with whom I agree. Sometimes, I'll catch an hour or so of Rush or Michael Savage just for the entertainment value, but most weeks I don't listen to political talk at all. Many of the conservatives I know, though, listen to right-wing talk as often as possible. I'm not sure whether conservatives somehow need more reassurance that they're right than liberals do or what.

...only because 20+ years of all-fascists-all-the-time has weeded out anybody who doesn't have a need to be reminded who to target with their Orwellian three-hour-hate every day...

A talk show has to have something to say. I guess that's why liberal talk has never suceeded.

...typical wingnut arrogance, with a heaping helping of ignorance to boot. Yes, broadcasters, you too can reach this pigheaded audient...

MSNBC is so liberal it doesn't even try to be balanced. Their morning show is terrible
...that morning show is hosted by a Republican ex-congressman. So much for your "liberal" canard...

Well then, what's YOUR take on the reason Liberal Talk radio has failed every time it's been tried?

...it HASN'T "failed every time it's been tried." There is a market for it and it continues to grow, while all-fascist-all-the-time stations have had their market shares shrinking and, in some cases, gone silent...

...and how does a Wikipedia page -- yeah, got a credible source there, pal! -- prove your bogus assertion that "liberal talk radio has failed"??? The only thing that can be "proven" there is that over 90% of Americans can't be bothered to tune in all-fascists-all-the-time hate talkers like Limbaugh and Hannity at any time, let alone once a week. Incredibly weak...

Air America failed.... After being subsidized by liberal causes... Numbers weren't there (no listeners) so the plug was pulled.

...no affiliates were there by the end of Air America. Almost all of the programming of the dozens of Progressive Talk stations in the country -- http://ltradio.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_progressive_talk_radio_stations is a comprehensive list, should anyone here still be under the delusion that the format is somehow a "failure" -- had switched their schedules to material distributed by Jones and local productions. As I recall, Ron Kuby's Air America show only got two affiliates, one being the New York City signal WWRL. And who are these "liberal causes" you claim "subsidized" Air America? If anything rings true in Sheldon Drobny's book Road to Air America (and from my personal dealings with his subsequent operation, there's damned little truth involved with the man), it's that Air America got NO support from wealthy liberals when they tried to crank the thing up...
