BERWICK STATION TO FLIP TO AM SPORTS
November 7, 2005 (Berwick PA), WFBS Radio based in Berwick, announced today that it will inaugurate a Sports Talk/Information offering in the weekday morning hours beginning Monday November 28th, featuring Matt Spiegel and Bill Lekas from Sporting News Radio. In addition, WFBS will continue to feature local and ABC News, Paul Harvey News & Comment, traffic reports, and a daily 2-minute commentary by local sports host Eddie Walker.
WFBS President & General Manager Kevin M. Fennessy commented: “We have been exploring our options to eliminate music in the morning drive-time hours for the last year…we felt that taking on Matt & Bill, and adding their show to what we’re already doing, was consistent with our posture as a sports-driven radio station. Being a station targeted at older listeners, we felt a lot of our audience was ‘sleeping in’ and missing the music, and that keeping our news and services intact, we could get non-typical users who haven’t tried us because of the music, to try us, and we could do the other services better”.
The station announced that its entertainment programming will continue unchanged at all other times.
WFBS, based in Berwick, airs a format of ‘50s and ‘60s Oldies, ABC and Local News, and all Berwick Sports coverage and local Sports Talk.
