FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 30, 2005

Popular sports talk host Tony Bruno returning to Tampa Bay Airwaves

TAMPA, FLORIDA - SPORTSRADIO AM 1470 is proud to announce the addition of the Tony Bruno Show to a great line-up of sports talk radio starting Monday, October 3rd. The show will air every weekday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This is great news for us and for the sizeable local fan base of Tony Bruno,” said Brad James, VP of Programming & Marketing for Genesis Communications. “You wouldn’t believe how many phone calls we have had asking us to bring Tony back to Tampa Bay sports radio. Tony is a man with a lot of strong local ties who loves to come to the Tampa Bay area to spend time with his fans. We couldn’t be more excited about bringing his show back to Tampa Bay airwaves, and Tony will actually be here for some golf with his fans soon”.

SPORTSRADIO AM 1470 is also proud to add Captains Mike Anderson and Billy Nobles, formerly known as “The Sports Animal’s Fishing Show”, to their weekend lineup. The show will be called “Onshore Offshore Radio”, and will air Sundays from 7a.m to 9 a.m.

“Billy Nobles and Mike Anderson are tournament winners and two of the Bay Area’s best fishing guides,” said James. “When they’re not on the air, they are out on the water as full time guides. These guys are entertaining and know Tampa Bay area waters better than anybody, and we think our listeners with outdoor interests will appreciate that.”

Monday through Friday, SPORTSRADIO AM 1470’s award-winning lineup also includes: ESPN RADIO'S Mike and Mike in the Morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., The Dan Patrick Show from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the Genesis-PRODUCED Terry Bowden Show from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

I am sure they are trying to fly that under the radar. I am sure that ESPN can not be happy that they are going to lose some of their network time so that they can run Bruno in Florida. I don't know what their agreement reads as far as how much ESPN they must run per day, but we do know that ESPN has pulled affiliations after having their feathers ruffled, regardless of whether or not they had another potential affiliate lined up.

Here's one notable difference I've noticed. When 1470 airs ESPN programming,
they air the national SportsCenter updates at :20, :40 and top of the hour, as
well as the local sportscenter (which needs to be more up to date IMHO).
When TB is on, SNR's SportsFlash is pre-empted, and you only get the local
update from Paul Porter. That's likely because SNR and ESPN run on different
clocks...SNR does their update within an ad block, and ESPN does theirs at the
end of the ad block entering the segment, with the exception of the top of the
hour.

Oh, by the way, I just checked out ESPN Florida's website, and Tampa is the
only market that carries Bruno--Orlando and Melbourne carry the Herd. What's
interesting to note here is that Melbourne carries Bill O'Reilly from noon-2pm.

LOL nice brunoism there.

as for espn/sporting news radio. part of the deal for espn to remain with an affiliate is that the station has to run x-amount of hours of espn programming per day.

i'm sure part of this move is that brad james, 1470 pd, and bruno are very close friends.

word has it when james was at 620, he wanted to bring bruno into tampa to essentially fill in the void when chris thomas died (and uncle fester sandy penner left) and dropkick mongo sileo and diaz. but since diaz was still under a long-term contract to clear channel, the CC uppercrust wouldn't let that fly.

man, what a mistake that was. mongo sileo is terrible beyond words. and diaz is clueless about sports not to mention how he always interrupts canadian bacon beckles.

james was so hacked off, he resigned.

Funny.. I heard that the Clear Channel brass had finally had enough of Brad spending more time on the golf course than in his office.

Say what you will about Diaz and Beckles. At least when I tune in, more often than not I'm going to hear about the Bucs, Bolts and Rays.

It may not be slick, sometimes it may not be accurate, but thats "your cue to call" get involved and put your two cents in.

If theres no other sports radio on..maybe...on a bad day..if I really have no life and don't mind hearing the same ol crap hes' been dishing out for 15 years....then I might go to Bruno---

whoops. I live northeast of Tampa. Can't pick up the Flamethrower 1470....

Oh well. My loss
